My story with God
I remember as a child ,my parents would take me and my brothers and sisters to the local Church of England every fortnight .It was a small church situated in the corner of a farmers paddock just out in the middle of nowhere all by its lonesome .I was too young to read at the time but i can recall looking up at the adults as they sang the hymns and i would hold the hymn book in my hands and just make my own words up and try and keep in tune as they sang along .After the service the congregation would gather at a farmers house just up the road and have morning tea with a heavily laden table full of all sorts of good things to eat and there was cordial for the kids and tea for the adults, the minister would sit in a big leather chair in the corner smoking a pipe and catching up with everyone as they mingled around the room .sometimes we would have sunday school afterwards ,where a couple of ladies would tell us stories and we would colour in biblical drawings.I guess i cant really remember a time when i didnt believe there was a God out there somewhere ,but it was going to be a long time before i really understood what life and the God thing was really all about .I think looking back we must have been a handfull for our parents,I am the 5th child of 11 kids ,only 3 of which were girls and i guess we were all pretty wild as we grew up .Most of my brothers were into cars and motorcycles ,and i am sure we all had our turns making our own dust storms as we practiced our driving and riding skills,as we tore up the paddocks and roads around the family farm. I can never remember my father drinking and i know he never smoked ,mum smoked but never in front of dad, most of us kids ended up drinking and smoking however i only ever smoked after i had ,had a few too many beers,I also had my share of cannabis in my younger days and even stayed up all night once with one of my brothers mates ,snorting cocaine and listening to albums from my record collection ,it seemed pretty cool at the time as i was listening to a lot of heavy music from the early seventies such as Lou Reed,Led Zeppelin Black Sabbath and Deep Purple and reading stuff about Andy Warhol and Timothy Leary .A couple of my elder brothers showed a fair interest in the lifestyle of outlaw motorcycle clubs and I also started showing an interest too .Reading the outlaw magazines put a strong sence in my head of brotherhood and unity within clubs but I think because I have always really been a loner at heart and also a bit of a thinker ,I could understand the sense of freedom that motorcycles offer but after reading a lot about club life and such i thought that really a lot of your freedom is taken from you by having to follow the club rules and having to attend so many meetings and things that the original enjoyment of motorcycles would somehow dissapear so it never really interested me that much to join a club.,I have allways loved to draw and so naturally for me the only thing to draw was custom motorcycles ,Harley Davidsons and Triumphs mostly, and a lot of my work has been published in outlaw magazines such as Easyriders(of America)and also Live To Ride of Australia as well as others .As there was so many kids in our family my parents decided we should sell our existing farm near wagga and and move out west a bit for a larger acreage,so we all moved to a larger farm at Ariah Park where we thought life would be a bit easier for us all ,but because of a couple of dry years and an interest rate hike things started to get a bit tougher and so my 2 eldest brothers took up shearing to bring a bit more income in.It was while we were at Ariah Park that I was confirmed,it didnt seem a big deal to me but i thought at least it would please God,so all was good. After about 4 years at Ariah Park my parents decided to move once again ,this time out to West Wyalongbut instead of getting better it just seemed to get worse and after I left school my brother Gary started to show me how to shear ,.TBC..
Other stuff about me:
I am now separated, but have five incredible kids Tegan 21,Chris(male)19,Amy 17,Jacob12 and little Emily is 8.I know that i'm a bit of a strange one to them at times but I know that in his own good time the "Big Fella" will sort that out for us.
