All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

For the Lord's portion is His people, Jacob His allotted inheritance. In a desert land He found him, in a barren and howling waste. He shielded him and cared for him; He guarded him as the apple of His eye, like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them on its pinions. ~ Deuteronomy 32:9-11

It's the most touching, humbling truth: God sees US as His portion, His inheritance (Ephesians 1:18). Is this passage not one of the greatest snapshots of grace? Jacob ( whose name means essentially "deceiver" ) was wild, selfish, and rebellious; yet God was on mission to seek him and save him and love him and transform him, even though he was a lost soul (Luke 19:10). Jacob's life itself was "a barren and howling waste," even like his environment. However, the transforming power of loving God made him the "apple of His eye," watching over him, with omni-instinctive care, like a mother eagle caring for her young. So transforming was His love to Jacob, that God changed his name to Israel, symbolic of the complete love-transformation.

God does not play favorites (Romans 2:11). He'll do the same for you, in Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:17).
