Occupation:
Writer
I'm here to...
help others grow in Christ, even as they help me grow (Prov. 27:17)
Interests:
Bible, prayer, misisons, writing, sports, reading
I'm passionate about...
loving my wife, pointing people to Jesus, giving Biblical counsel, praying for people, lay preaching, playing golf
My story with God
I was saved as a teen. However I did not grow. I strayed. I became a school teacher. Three of my students were killed in a wreck. God allowed that to crush me. He showed up at my home and reclaimed me. I've never been the same.
Other stuff about me:
I like witty humor and even bad puns. I like non-gory sci-fi. I like old radio comedy programs. I've always had a passion for baseball and golf. I've been a part-time sports journalist for over half my life. I have broadcast football and basketball on radio and internet. I've been on nine overseas mission trips: Romania (3), Russia (2), India, Ukraine, Paris, Jamaica, Trinidad. As a lay preacher, I've done a couple of short stints as interim at small churches. For five years, I've written daily Bible devotionals (Mon.-Fri.) for an e-mail list and my Christian web sites. I'm published author: two POD novels, many short stories in regional publications. I taught English and coached four sports over the years. OK, that's enough. :)

The Profound "Newness" in Christmas

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! ~ 2 Corinthians 5:17

**

I clearly remember how Christ made all things new to me. I felt like the awe-struck shepherds in the field, with the sky teeming with the glory of God's angels' proclamation (Luke 2:8-20). I felt like the magi, in their surprising discovery, enchanting journey, and holy meeting (Matthew 2:1-12). I treasured all of those things in my heart, like Mary (Luke 2:19 ).

It should be l… Continue

Thoughts for a Christmas Eve

But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. And you will go out and leap like calves released from the stall. ~ Malachi 4:2

**

In this, the last chapter of the last book of the Old Testament, the "feeling" of Christmas Eve is evident. It would be hundreds of years before another prophet of God would again appear -- John the Baptist. A dark silence seemed to blanket the world. In the New International Version of the Bible, the last word of this… Continue

LORD?

Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the LORD.~ Luke 2:11

"Yes, LORD," she told him, "I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world." ~ John 11:27

**

There are places in the world where this is more readily accepted. Why? It is that they do not live in -- and therefore have not deified -- a democracy. They understand lordship because they have absolute rulers, with no public vote. Please do not misunderstand: democracy lead… Continue

Hypocrite?

Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! ~ Matthew 23: 13, 15, 23, 25

**

Some people love to call others "hypocrite," as if the mere using of the word makes it true and as if it were some magic trump card to demean the person. Jesus said that the first thing you should do is get your own life thoroughly straight before you call anyone else to judgment (Matthew 7:5).By the way, do you realize that NOWHERE outside of Jesus' Words will you ever find the words "hypocrite" or… Continue

The Right Kind of Fool

The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." ~ Psalm 14:1

But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise. ~ 1 Corinthians 1:27

Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a "fool" so that he may become wise. ~ 1 Corinthians 3:18

**

It's just a matter of what kind of fool you want to be. There is one that refuses God; there is one that loses all for God. Paul fell into the latter category. He counted all as r… Continue

Oh how I love your blog post, Volleyball with Jesus. I was reminded of how sweet it is to be loved by Him..as well as to not worry knowing that it's not about me, it's not about what I can do, but it's a matter of trusting what God can accomplish through me, through my weaknesses. To God be the glory!

hello, this is the joke for today. i got this from the AAG forum-

WHAT'S A CHURCH?

A well-worn one-dollar bill and a similarly distressed twenty-dollar bill arrived at a Federal Reserve Bank to be retired. As they moved along the conveyor belt to be burned, they struck up a conversation. The twenty-dollar bill reminisced about its travels all over the country.

"I've had a pretty good life," the twenty-dollar bill proclaimed. "Why I've been to Las Vegas and Atlantic City , the finest restaurants in New York , performances on Broadway, and even a cruise to the Caribbean "

"Wow!" said the one-dollar bill. "You've really had an exciting life!"

"So tell me," says the twenty-dollar bill, "where have you been throughout your lifetime?"

The one dollar bill replies, "Oh, I've been to the Methodist Church , the Baptist Church, the Lutheran Church."

The twenty-dollar bill interrupts, "What's a church?"
