For the Lord's portion is His people, Jacob His allotted inheritance. In a desert land He found him, in a barren and howling waste. He shielded him and cared for him; He guarded him as the apple of His eye, like an eagle that stirs up its nest and...

I'm here to...
help others grow in Christ, even as they help me grow (Prov. 27:17)

I'm passionate about...
loving my wife, pointing people to Jesus, giving Biblical counsel, praying for people, lay preaching, playing golf
My story with God
I was saved as a teen. However I did not grow. I strayed. I became a school teacher. Three of my students were killed in a wreck. God allowed that to crush me. He showed up at my home and reclaimed me. I've never been the same.
Other stuff about me:
I like witty humor and even bad puns. I like non-gory sci-fi. I like old radio comedy programs. I've always had a passion for baseball and golf. I've been a part-time sports journalist for over half my life. I have broadcast football and basketball on radio and internet. I've been on nine overseas mission trips: Romania (3), Russia (2), India, Ukraine, Paris, Jamaica, Trinidad. As a lay preacher, I've done a couple of short stints as interim at small churches. For five years, I've written daily Bible devotionals (Mon.-Fri.) for an e-mail list and my Christian web sites. I'm published author: two POD novels, many short stories in regional publications. I taught English and coached four sports over the years. OK, that's enough. :)

The Ascending Trans-Miracle

There He (Jesus) was transfigured before them. His Face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. ~ Matthew 17:2

**

We've heard the true Christian saying, "There is no crown that does not go through the Cross." A similar concept belongs to the transfiguration. There is no supernatural transmigration to the mountaintop of transfiguration: it must be trudged uphill after you are saved. For Jesus, that "uphill" did not begin at the bottom of the literal mountain. It began… Continue

Volleyball with Jesus

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. ~ 1 Peter 5:7

**

I'd like to engage a metaphor: volleyball. A volleyball player volleys the received ball either to a teammate or to the opposing player over the net. Jesus, in essence, tells us to volley all to Him.

Illustration: I remember that, some years ago, I was receiving an inordinate amount of criticism in attempting to live my Christian faith in a secular situation, and it was bothering me. I had a heart-to-Heart talk with our L… Continue

How About a Kindle?

Jesus: I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! ~ Luke 12:49

**

Here is the kindle we need. John had prophesied it: "He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire" (Matthew 3:11). Therefore, on the Day of Pentecost, God made sure He gave confirmation: "They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them" (Acts 2:3). It is a an empowering fire, a cleansing fire, a consuming fire, a purging fire. It is a fire… Continue

Loving God's Judgments?

Mount Zion rejoices, the villages of Judah are glad because of Your judgments. ~ Psalm 48:11

**

This goes against the grain of our natural thinking. Who is joyful about God's judgments? If we have any sense of God's holiness (if we believe in Him at all), we think, trembling, that his judgments are terrible and sure. However, let's think through this.

Firstly, if you have given your life to Jesus, "condemnation" was taken by Him on the Cross, and you need not fear that final Judgment: "Theref… Continue

Jar Theology

While He (Jesus) was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on His Head. ~ Mark 14:3

**

For days, months, years, it may have sat on a shelf, in a chest, under a bed. On its exterior, could there have been dust from disuse? But Mary remembered it, in the jar, very precious and very expensive. Now was the time. She would reveal its c… Continue

Oh how I love your blog post, Volleyball with Jesus. I was reminded of how sweet it is to be loved by Him..as well as to not worry knowing that it's not about me, it's not about what I can do, but it's a matter of trusting what God can accomplish through me, through my weaknesses. To God be the glory!

hello, this is the joke for today. i got this from the AAG forum-

WHAT'S A CHURCH?

A well-worn one-dollar bill and a similarly distressed twenty-dollar bill arrived at a Federal Reserve Bank to be retired. As they moved along the conveyor belt to be burned, they struck up a conversation. The twenty-dollar bill reminisced about its travels all over the country.

"I've had a pretty good life," the twenty-dollar bill proclaimed. "Why I've been to Las Vegas and Atlantic City , the finest restaurants in New York , performances on Broadway, and even a cruise to the Caribbean "

"Wow!" said the one-dollar bill. "You've really had an exciting life!"

"So tell me," says the twenty-dollar bill, "where have you been throughout your lifetime?"

The one dollar bill replies, "Oh, I've been to the Methodist Church , the Baptist Church, the Lutheran Church."

The twenty-dollar bill interrupts, "What's a church?"

hello, here's a joke from janet walker of the US to cheer u up-

THE FISHERMAN

A guy is 72 years old and loves to fish.

He was sitting in his boat the other day when he heard a voice say,

'Pick me up.'

He looked around and couldn't see any one.

He thought he was dreaming when he heard the voice say again,

'Pick me up.'

He looked in the water and there, floating on the top, was a frog.

The man said, 'Are you talking to me?'

The frog said, 'Yes, I'm talking to you.

Pick me up then, kiss me and I'll turn into the most beautiful woman you have ever seen.

I'll make sure that all your friends are envious and jealous because I will be your bride!'

The man looked at the frog for a short time, reached over, picked it up carefully, and placed it in his front pocket.

The frog said, 'What, are you nuts? Didn't you hear what I said?
I said kiss me and I will be your beautiful bride.'

He opened his pocket, looked at the frog and said, 'Nah, at my age I'd rather have a talking frog.'

With age comes wisdom.
