It is always so strange to me when people say that they do not undersatnd Bible prophesy. Through all the weeks that we have been busy here in this group, as I work through the passages, I cannot see how some of these, ESPECIALLY those in Revelation can be misunderstood. What is so mysterious about a passage like for instance Rev 8:8 "...great mountain of fire was thrown into the sea. And one third of the water in the sea became blood."? I have to ask: do you believe that the ten plagues of Egypt was literal? Were they REAL frogs? Did the water really turn to blood? If answer is yes, then why would you believe the plagues of Revelation to be symbolic? And if you believe that the ten plagues really happened, then what reason is there to believe that the events described in Revelation won't really happen? On the other hand, I know that our adversary, that old Devil, is cunning, sly, and though people don't like to think about it, he is also a genius who knows exactly what to plant in people's thoughts to undermine God's plan. Some-one once said that the Satan's greatest trick ever, was to convince the world that he does not exist. So, if he doesn't exist, then it would be safe to say that Revelation and all other prophesies are fairytales, right?
Yes, God gave us prophesy. And He intended for us to understand it. Satan will do his utmost to confuse us, and he is doing an exellent job at it. Just look at the divided church! Not a day goes by that I don't come accross some or other website from some or other church bent on pulling to pieces different denominations and people's different explanations regarding prophesy and the Bible in general. Since we are all limited human beings, it is safe to say that different people may have different interpretations. However before we know sit in a heap and say to our selves: everybody is wrong/right so why bother, we must never forget the following sound advice: don't just accept what people write and say about scripture. Read it for yourself, study the word, pray on it, meditate over it. The Lord would not have given us His Word and NOT give us the tools to understand it for ourselves. If you read a certain commentry about a passage, go and actually read that passage for youself. Sometimes people make mistakes. Sometimes people see something in a passage that others don't. Jer 29:11 is a good example of this. It says that God knows the plan he has for you. The fact that that passage was originally directed to Israel, does not stop people from taking that verse and applying it to their own lives! I should know, it happens to be my favourite text in the Bible.

To ignore prophecy is to ignore Jesus because He IS prophecy. Christ is everything that is good.

God considers Prophecy important

He put so much of it in the Bible.

Although prophecy constitutes a large part of the Bible, its importance is constantly downplayed by those who dismiss it as having no practical significance, that it can't be understood, or by those who object to it on the grounds that it is a "fad" that takes people's eyes off Jesus.

Ignoring the study of biblical prophecy means ignoring the study of a large part of the Bible.

You cannot study Scripture without studying prophecy.
Every fourth verse in the Scripture deals with prophecy.
The coming of the Lord is a truth of such importance that it is mentioned 318 times in the 260 chapters of the NT (on an average of once every 25 verses).
The only subject mentioned more frequently than the second coming is the subject of salvation.
Paul mentioned the communion ordinance only twice in his 13 epistles and baptism only 13 times, but he mentions the return of our Lord 50 times!

Studying Prophecy in the Light of Experience
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. [2 Timothy 3:16-17]

Experience and history can aid in our study of prophecy. What we learn from the historical accounts recorded in the Bible as well as the laws and commandments put forth throughout Scripture can help us better understand the prophetic parts of the Bible.

Historical accounts of the Bible can shed some light on prophecy in that we can see God working through particular circumstances to bring about future eventualities. Unlike any other book in the world, the Bible contains hundreds of fulfilled prophecies pertaining to cities, nations, empires, and individuals that can be verified in the historical record. The literal fulfillment of these prophecies demonstrates the accuracy of biblical prophecy, and it only makes sense that yet unfulfilled prophecy to be equally accurate.

The First Coming of Jesus Christ was Prophesied
It was prophecy that began the process leading up to the very first Christmas, since it was an angel that appeared to Mary to tell her that she was going to have a son. After Jesus was born, it was angels who appeared to the shepherds in the fields, announcing the good news of the coming of the Messiah. And an angel also came to the wise men that had travelled to see the baby Jesus, warning them to go home by another route. Angels have always been known in the Holy Bible as God’s messengers who reside with God in heaven when they are not doing his bidding on earth.

Jesus Christ Is Coming Again
The last book of the Bible (Revelation) describes His return in graphic detail and the next to the last verse says, "Yes, I am coming soon."

The Law of Cause and Effect
We can better understand the prophetic scriptures as we study the historical and wisdom parts of the Bible as well as the parts defined as "Law". There are 759 statutes, laws and judgements in Scripture that outline the cause and effect of many areas of our lives. Each of these precepts describe an event or cause with a predictable result or effect. These laws were true when God decreed them and they are true today, as they will be true in the future.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. [Hebrews 13:8]

However, it seems that the more things change, the more they remain the same. While history can provide valuable education for those who pay attention to it, not everyone pays attention. I'm often amazed when reading the book of Jeremiah to see civilizations thriving as they follow God's law and suffering as they reject that law. Their's is a history like a yo-yo. These people, like us, have been provided by God valuable commandments for us to follow with predictable results. When they followed the law, they were blessed. When they rejected the law, they suffered.

In a sense, when you understand this cause and effect relationship of God's Word, much of what we might consider prophecy is not really unknown. Though we might not understand the specifics, we can understand the more general principle and live by it. The Bible stands as a witness to the events unfolding before our eyes. In order to better understand prophecy, we need only to rest at the Savior's feet and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to our heart through His written word.

Sovereignty of God
Despite our best efforts to understand prophecy through the lens of experience and history, God stands above everything we know and understand, and only He has the power to bring prophecy to pass. While He may open our eyes to see things, as he did with John in Patmos, the outcome is still under His control. While we may be blessed to discern future events and may not always see things clearly, we can know He is in control and the results are His. The entirety of Scripture (history, law, and prophecy) is there to give us comfort in the knowledge that He is in control and there is a plan.

While we cannot know the ultimate details of God's plan and the specifics of future events, we are not left totally clueless either. God has provided to us a roadmap with statutes and laws to follow. He has promosed certain results for those who follow his plan and consequences for those that don't. He has demonstrated to us through history that He is faithful and there is order in His way.

Wake Up!
In the wake of increasing violence, violent weather, natural disasters, and other calamities befalling mankind, some might ask, "What does it all mean?" Many of the signs of His soon return we are witnessing today are designed to wake us from our slumber.

He is trying to get our attention.

God does not pour out His wrath without first warning us.

God wants us to know He will return. God's seeming delay in bringing about the consummation of all things is a result not of indifference but of patience in waiting for all who will come to repentance. God is giving us every chance to repent of our sin and return to Him. He is being patient with us because He wants everyone to come to repentance.

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. [2Peter 3:9]

The delay of Christ's return is also related to the preaching of the gospel of the kingdom to the whole world. God wants everyone to hear the gospel and does not desire anyone to perish eternally (1Tim. 2:4).

This does not mean that all will be saved, for if a person rejects God's grace and salvation, then he or she remains lost.

Spirit of Lawlessness
Since the fall in the Garden of Eden, man has declared his independence from God and demanded his own way. You can see a clear pattern throughout the historical accounts in the Bible of man rejecting God's way and attempting to create his own reality. This pattern of lawlessness, injustice, and increase of wickedness dominates our society today and throughout history was found in civilizations in the process of decline. It is a pattern evident in nations that rejected God's Word as ultimate authority in their lives, rejected the only Lawgiver and Judge (James 4:12), and is a pattern prevailing in many Americans today.

Some have rejected God's laws concerning celebrating His feasts, for example, saying it is meaningless in light of the end of the Old Testament sacrificial system and the destruction of the Second Temple in A.D. 70. For these and many others, they choose to practice the 10 planks of communism rather than the 10 Commandments. This too, is a sign of His soon return!

Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.
- [Matthew 24:12]

Emergence of the AntiChrist
The high level of apathy among the population and ignorance of Bible prophecy is paving the way for the Antichrist. It would appear he will easily deceive people who only want to hear what tickles their ears and feeds their selfish desires. We are witnessing events today that would appear to be setting up the antichrist new world order with hardly a whimper from most people.

For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. [2 Timothy 4:3-4]

Rev 8:13 “And I looked, and I heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, "Woe, woe, woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet of the three angels who are about to sound!"
Whenever a word is repeated in the Bible like in the above text, it shows amount. For example: Rev 14:8 ”And another angel followed, saying, "Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.”
The double use of the word “fallen” refers to the two Babylon’s that will fall: Mystery Babylon the church/religion of the beast, and Babylon the city/governmental seat of the beast.
In the case of the verse quoted above, the three woes refer to three judgments that are to follow.
Today I will only look at the first 2 of these woes.
The verses following the warning (Rev 9:1-11) have often been taken symbolically in its entirety. The reasoning behind this is that no such creatures that are described here exist, therefore it must not be literal creatures. My belief is as follows: these things do exist. Maybe we can’t see them in our physical realm, but only in the spiritual realm. Whether or not we can see them is irrelevant. What is relevant is that the effect they have definitely will be seen and felt.
Verse 1 speaks of a star falling to earth from heaven. Since we already saw in chapter one that stars are descriptive of angels, we know that this is an angel carrying the key to the bottomless pit. Together with the smoke that rises up from this pit, a swarm of locusts also comes out. They are described as follows: they look like horses prepared for battle; with breastplates like breastplates of iron; they have wings that makes the sound of many chariots and many horses riding into battle; they have tails like that of scorpions with stings at the end; they faces like men with teeth like lions’ teeth; hair like women’s hair (I assume long hair).
Unlike normal locusts they will not harm any green or leafy plant. They are sent to torment those without the seal of God on their foreheads with their stings. The effect is described as being the same as when stung by a scorpion. The torment will of such a level that those affected by it will want to die but will not be able to do so. Verse 5 says that these things will not have authority to kill anybody but “…to torment them for five months.” Later, verse 10 speaks of the power of the stings in their tails: “ their power to hurt men for 5 months”. I think that the double reference to 5 months may indicate that although these creatures have authority to torment people for 5 months, the effects of their stings will continue for another 5 months.
We saw earlier that it is an angel that is given the keys to the bottomless pit that holds these creatures. What is not clear to me if this angel is the same as the one that is described as their leader. Abbadon (Hebrew) or Apollyon (Greek) translated, means “destroyer”. As we see from these verses God will use what was intended by Satan to be a force of evil – no doubt to torment God’s own - to meet His own needs and will.

WHO TO TRUST?
Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope is the LORD(jeremiah17:7,nkjv).this verse says that those who trust in him are blessed many times we trust in our wisdom, knowledge and education, but these things never amount to anything eternal.only our hope in the LORD will empower us and give us everlasting life.thank you,God bless you.

The Fifth Trumpet Brings the First Terror / 9:1-12
Revelation 9 records the fifth and sixth trumpet judgments—the first two “terrors” (8:13). The first four trumpet judgments had brought disaster upon nature; with the fifth and sixth, demons were sent to attack the people of the earth and torment them. Ironically, the demonic forces destroyed their own worshipers. They were sent against those who did not have the seal of God and had, therefore, chosen to side with Satan (9:4).
9:1-2 The first “terror” occurred when the fifth angel blew his trumpet. John saw a star that had fallen to earth from the sky. There is much debate as to the identity of this star, whether the “star” is Satan, a fallen angel, Christ, or a good angel. Some scholars point to 9:11 and identify this angel with the “angel from the bottomless pit,” thus, a demon (see also 12:4, 9; Isaiah 14:12; Luke 10:18). If the star is a demon, he loosed evil forces upon the inhabitants of the earth. The evil forces, however, were only allowed to harm those who belonged to them, not the sealed believers (9:4). Most likely, this “star” is a good angel, because he was given the key to the shaft of the bottomless pit, and that key, normally, would be held by Christ (1:18), and because in 20:1 an angel came down from heaven with this key. If it is a good angel, then he was simply obeying God’s directions to let loose calamity upon the earth. Most importantly, this angel is under God’s control and authority.
The bottomless pit, is the eternal destination of the wicked and the abode of the demonic forces (see Luke 8:31; 2 Peter 2:4; Jude 1:6; also referred to in 9:11; 11:7; 17:8; 20:1-3). It is full of smoke and fire, for when it was opened, smoke poured out as though from a huge furnace. There is so much smoke upon the opening of this pit that the sunlight and air were darkened.
9:3-6 Out of the billowing smoke come locusts. God had also sent a plague of locusts on Egypt (Exodus 10:1-20). This locust plague, however, fulfilled the words of the prophet Joel, who described a locust plague as a foreshadowing God’s coming judgment (Joel 1:6–2:11). In the Old Testament, locusts symbolized destruction because they destroyed all vegetation (Deuteronomy 28:42; 1 Kings 8:37; Psalm 78:46). In what is called a plague, millions of locusts (grasshoppers) travel in a column many feet deep and miles in length. So many destroy everything in an area—grass, trees, and crops. This locust infestation spells destruction on agricultural societies. In the 1950s, locusts devoured several hundred thousand square miles of vegetation in the Middle East.
Here, however, these locusts were told not to hurt the grass or plants or trees. This is a very different kind of “locust” plague, for they looked like horses (9:7; Joel 2:4) and they were given power to sting like scorpions. These “locusts” were terrifying. In fact, they were demons—evil spirits ruled by Satan who tempt people to sin. They did not attack vegetation but, instead, attacked all the people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads (7:3). This invasion of demons tortured people who did not believe in God. Believers, however, were protected from this (3:10; 7:3-4). The demons were not allowed to kill people but to cause agony like the pain of scorpion stings. These would be so painful that people will seek death, but would be unable to do so. God would not allow them to escape punishment by dying—instead, they would have to suffer. The demons could only torment people for five months—the lifespan of a locust, as well as the length of the harvesttime on earth during which locusts plagues could come. The limitations placed on the demons show that they are under God’s authority.
9:7-10 This description is very similar to what locusts actually look like upon close observation (see Joel 2:4), but these locusts are exaggerated and much bigger than life—supernatural locusts. That they had human faces probably indicates that these were not mere insects but were intelligent beings. These locusts were not just out for food but were sent to make war against their own followers. Their teeth were like the teeth of a lion is also a description found in Joel’s prophecy (Joel 1:6). These locusts had armor made of iron, making them invincible. No one would be able to fight against them. Their wings had the roaring sound of an army of chariots rushing into battle. This was the most fearsome sound of warfare in the ancient world. No one could stand against war chariots (see also Joel 2:5).
9:11 This army of locusts had a king. He was the angel from the bottomless pit. Most likely, this was not the same angel who unlocked the pit in 9:1 but a different angel, an emissary of Satan (see commentary on 9:1).
This angel’s name is given in both Hebrew (Abaddon) and in Greek (Apollyon), both meaning “Exterminator” or “Destroyer.” The Greek name may relate to the god Apollo, who was believed to be the leader of all the gods and was adopted as the patron god of the emperor. One of the symbols of Apollo was a locust. Roman emperors, such as Domitian, liked to portray themselves as the incarnate Apollo. Ironically, John may have linked this leader from hell (the locust king) with the emperor. Most likely, this is a powerful demon, similar to a commander in the hierarchy of demons, but not Satan himself.
9:12 In the Old Testament, the word terror always refers to coming judgment. Though carried out by demonic powers, these events are actually divine judgments. Satan is at the mercy of God’s power. At this point, two more terrors are coming.
