NEW AGE MOVEMENT
“The New Age Movement (NAM) is hard to define as a singular religion. It is just what it is – a movement. It is essentially a collection of eastern-influenced metaphysical ideologies, a hodge-podge of theologies and philosophies that are bound together by “universal tolerance” and moral relativism. The NAM is the natural progression of humanism. It teaches that humans have evolved biologically, and must now evolve spiritually. Beyond that, it is difficult to define, as there is no hierarchy, doctrine, creed, or membership. You will be hard-pressed to find the “First New Age Church” on any street corner in your town.”
“Man is the central figure in the NAM. He is viewed as divine, and progressing toward a kind of godhood, or “Christ-Consciousness”. Many NAM divisions are pantheistic – they believe God is in everything, and everything together makes up God. Therefore, as a part of nature, man is part of God. Many New Age practices are designed to push man through the spiritual evolution to godhood. Astral projection (training your soul to have out-of-body experiences), contacting spirit guides, and using crystals to purify your body and mind’s energy systems are among these practices. Many New Agers believe in reincarnation and in Karma.”
“Some NAM terms you may hear are: holistic, synergistic, unity, oneness, harmony,
transformation, personal growth, human potential, awakening, networking, energy, cleansing, and consciousness. A disproportionate amount of NAM books and texts contain the word “self”. That is because, as we said earlier, man is the central figure. One must improve one’s “self” to become one with nature and god. You may also hear New Age followers using Christian terms. This is because they view Jesus as a man who excelled at spiritual evolution and progression, and was tuned into his “Christ Consciousness.” Do not be fooled, though. The Christian terms you will hear will have a different meaning to a New Ager than they will for you.”

NEW THOUGHT MOVEMENT
New Thought movement, started by Phineas Parkhurst Quimby, a mind healer. You will also notice some elements of belief that are common in today’s New Age spirituality. Mind-science cults teach that God is an impersonal force. They will make God more like humans and humans more like God. NTM is nothing more than pantheism which is the belief that all is God, which is taken from Hinduism.
How they view:
The Bible
“Religious science teaches that there are many holy books, and they are all equal to the Bible as far as divine revelation goes.”
God
“Religious science believes that the universe is the body of God. A view called pantheism. Every person is part of the universe, so every person is part of God.”
Jesus
“Religious science believes that Jesus merely showed us the way. Jesus embodied the Christ “consciousness” and we can do the same thing.”
Humankind and Sin
“Religious science teaches that all human beings are divine. We don’t sin; we simply make mistakes.”
Salvation
“Religious science, God does not punish sin, so there’s no need for salvation.”
Death and Afterlife
“Religious science heaven and hell are merely illusions we create in our minds.”
What’s the appeal?
The mind sciences appeal to how they make people feel. In our world there is sickness and suffering. Within mind-science religions, they say it is only the result of wrong thinking. “The mind sciences are full of compassionate, spiritually sensitive people who want to feel better about humanity and our world, so they deny the reality of a personal God and substitute the notion of an impersonal life force. It’s not what you think that counts, but how you feel.”
These sciences make people feel better about life by creating an alternative reality. A question one needs to ask is whether this alternative reality is rooted in truth or fantasy?
