Interesting comments. We must always bear in mind that God designed the plan of salvation to rescue man from his fallen state with a full awareness of the helpless condition fo man. The Gospel was not meant to be a litany of instructions and methods of self-help towards righteousness but a message to generate hope and faith in fallen helpless man in the will and power of God by grace to deliver the sinner. It is this Gospel which is the power of God unto salvation. The Spirit works with it and implements the effectiveness of the salvation by grace plan. But we need the faith to let go of our props and rise up and walk in absolute dependence on God.

I read a quote in the devotion called 'Our Daily Bread' that said
" Never talk to men about God until you have first talked to God about men."

I think that is so very true because when we pray God is able to work on US as well as the people we are trying , by His grace , to help.

I can very much relate to what you said about 'being so egotistical that you believe that you are somehow above God's grace". I had that same mind set and the Lord mercifully deliver me from it as well.
I rejoice with you in this.

God bless you

Over the past few months I have learned much about God's Grace. For years I could not believe that God could forgive me as I was not worthy of forgiveness. My counselor friend in love said to me, "how egotistical to think that you are somehow above God's grace". I cried and realized that I had been pushing God away because of my own pride. No one is worthy, no one is good enough, that is why it is grace. We are all lost (dead) without this wonderful, free, unmerited grace so selfishly given through Christ's sacrifice on the cross.

Well, we are moving on as we explore the role of grace in our Christian walk. We want to take it slowly and step and by step. Because of the significance of the inheritance of spiritual death by every human being born into this world for the appreciation of the need of the grace of God to bring us to life in Christ, we will examine spiritual death in some detail. So our next message will be "The Body of this Death" based on Romans 7. God bless you. Thanks for your comments - some privately to my mail box and others publicly on the site. They are very encouraging. I am praying for each of you continually.

Our focus on this new discussion, Mankind's Need of Grace, is the extent to which the nature with which every human being is born into this world makes it necessary for God to deal with mankind by grace at salvation. Man's human nature is described in the Bible to be spiritually dead. Indeed, the Holy Spirit knows what death is. Thus man's original condition of death makes it impossible for human beings to make any spiritual contribution to their salvation. The more you ponder on this truth, the more it generates true humility and gratitude to God for His amazing grace that brought you salvation. Self-righteousness vanishes and you glory only in the Cross of Christ as the virtual life-line of grace for your salvation.

PoemiaDei had suggested that I leave this comment, which I had sent to him earlier, as an encouragement to others. If my struggles will serve to help someone else I am glad to leave the comment.
"Thank your for your invitation and prayers. The spiritual renewal in my life has been a long time coming and it is good to know there are people praying for me. I have been seeing a Christian counselor for about 5 months and he has been helping me understand the grace God freely gives. It is hard to believe that in 50 years I never understood this gift. I have burdened myself with guilt and doubts for years over sin from my teens and early 20's which led to doubts about God and his forgiveness. This self hate and doubt has led to more sin and trouble during my life as well as negatively effecting my marriage. Through counseling I am coming to accept this Grace, accept God's forgiveness and forgive myself, though I still go through times of doubt and and wonder how God can love me after all the hurt I have caused Him and others. Thank you for your prayer. Grace and Peace to you through our Lord Jesus. Wally"

Thanks for those comments. They are a blessing to all of us in the group. Keep them coming.

The subject of our next discussion will be posted soon on the topic Mankind's Need of Grace. In it we will examine the reason why mankind can only be ministered to by God by grace.

As we continue to explore this wonderful and amazing subject of Grace here in this group, keep in mind this acronym (thanks, Bob, for it): G-R-A-C-E - God's Riches At Christ's Expense!

God bless you. I am praying for each one of you.
