One Nation Under Gods

I just finished a book titled the One Nation Under Gods. It is about the History of the Mormon church by Richard Abanes. The book is very well documented. There is a lot of stuff I didn't know. Atleast the detail any way. I find it very encouraging now for time in which i may have the privilege of witnessing to Mormons. The book covered the Church' President, conspiracies, polygamous history, Doctrinal changes, historical revisionism etc. It had documents quoted from the days in which these issues were news. Magazine articles in which the presidents were quoted word for word and the completely contradicted it in a later interview. I highly recommend it for anyone that has a desire to understand more fully what it is they are dealing with when talking with a Mormon.

The book is filled with detailed accounts of Mormon history that the Mormon church has manipulated and hidden or denied. It documents very well the erroneous teachings of Mormonism and the many false teachings. It has comparisons of Mormonism with Christianity which show why the two are not compatible. It documents very well contradictory prophecies as well as core doctrinal beliefs that have changed over time do to the cultural climate, something Christianity has not done without deviating from historic orthodoxy. It documents many things that at many levels and in many areas of the church cause profound problems and it is for this reason that the church does not allow questions of it to be asked. It show with documented proof of its leaders quoting them showing that lying to spread the faith is necessary thus showing this aspect very similar to that of Islamic teaching. It shows the manipulation of people spiritually, mentally and financially. What I find best about this book is that while I knew some of the things mentioned it elaborated them in showing the gravity of the various situations not by opinion but by historical fact. There are documents shown as proof as well as many quotes the Mormons church thought and wished lost. One of the best I liked was the fact that Joseph Smith claimed the Book of Mormon to be inspired and he accurately translated it. Upon investigation those that were scholars in such fields showed his found text to be writings of his imagination and except for his so called find there exists no other proof of Reformed egyptian whatever it was he said he had! And as to the claim that God told him what to say and how to translate it, it has been shown that much of what he wrote was plagerized from the KJV and not only this but many of the grammatical errors and such remained. Now that may be expected in the KJV, afterall it was the translation of men and Christians hold to the fact that the original manuscripts were inerrant but if God translated it for Joseph and he wrote it down it seems odd that he (God) made the same errors as the KJV translators. These are just a brief overview of things I remember of the top of my head.This book certainly encourages me and grants to me a strength needed as opportunity to witness to Mormons arise. Most missionaries won't know much of this because they are strictly guided in what to read and so forth and questions are not encouraged. So as they share much with me that may sound innocent enough, I am more aptly prepared in knowing no only is it not innocent but it is untrue, and this will prevent me from filling my head with untruth. Again I can say this because so much of this is documented and quoted. It is as if Jesus said he is not God but later he said he was. This would cause problems for me and it is similarly quotes and such like this that Mormon history is full of.
