Do You Want To Be Happy?

What are you waiting for?

Most people are waiting for something -- something "special" that will make their life great, so they can be happy.

Ask yourself: have others had this, and are they all happy? No, they're not, and it won't give you lasting happiness, either.

Happiness is not determined by external circumstances, but by internal circumstances.

Everyone chooses how happy they are by what they choose to think about.

Your attitude is determined by your perspective, which is determined by what you think about -- your focus. You choose your focus, so ultimately, you are the one who chooses whether to be happy, or not.

Perspective is what the Beatitudes (Matthew 5) are about. Seeing a bigger picture than just this one small moment of time. (The Beatitudes are where Jesus explained how some are blessed, or happy -- even in difficult situations.)

(The word we translate as "happy" in the New Testament is usually translated as "blessed.")

You won't get happiness by chasing what the world has to offer. It has already been tried and found wanting.

And, you will never be happy as long as you are self-centred. A focus on self is guaranteed to prevent happiness.

Right after Jesus performed the menial task of washing his disciple's feet -- akin to cleaning toilets today -- He told them:

JOHN 13:15,17 15 I did this as an example for you. So you should do as I have done for you. 17 If you know these things, you will be happy if you do them.

You will be happy if you help others. If you take your focus off yourself. That's what Jesus taught.

SAY THESE WORDS : I choose to focus on God and be thankful and happy.

Happy Happy New Year Brother's and Sister's!!!

Hi everyone. I like how you set this site up. I too started a book club at Unite Together. I don't know if any of you are familiar with that site or not. I like how positive this club is. It is important to be thankful for our blessings.

Good to meet you Carol, Hold on to Faith in HIS Word, and your circumstances will change! It is a greater goal to please God than to try and please people! I have visited your PAGE, and was blessed to read about the amazing call on your life. I can understand you feelings of frustration, and need to vent. I hope that things are going much better for you. God loves you so much, and wants to use you to further HIS Kingdom here on earth.

Are you reading the book that Carla recommended by James Macdonald…‘Lord, Change my Attitude, before it’s too late’? Perhaps this book would be a good resource for your clients as well. It is an amazing tool about changing oneself…not others. To be effective, we must be open to considering what the Lord has to say about changing our own attitude, and be truly willing to be changed. Ultimately, with God’s help we can stop the flow of negativity that steals our joy. We can start the flow of good attitudes that cause abundant joy to overflow, and begin to change our attitudes. We must be willing to focus exclusively on ‘our own attitude’, and not on the shortcomings of others, but really working on our own attitude, and be willing to go after this ‘change of attitude’ with urgency. If someone is unwilling to change their own attitude it will not be possible to change.

Rather than asking God to ‘shut your mouth’… :)...have you tried asking the Lord, what HE wants to tell the person you are counselling? Ask the Lord for wisdom as to how to speak into their life, so that your words be HIS Words. HE is the only ONE who knows everything about everyone, and the words that are meaningful and effective to each person.

A story: Sally, (not her real name), praying with Jane, (not her real name). Sally had a ‘Word of Knowledge’. It was adulteress! Sally prayed for wisdom, and felt God say: ‘Tell Jane. ‘Jesus wants to be your only lover’. The effect this had on Jane was amazing! She broke down and confessed her adulterous relationship…and was able to ask and receive God’s forgiveness. If the person you are counselling is not a Christian, you may have an opportunity to share the Good News about Jesus Christ, and lead them in a prayer of repentance. :)

Attitudes are important. They affect everything and everyone we come into contact with, and the only attitude that any of us have any power to change…with God’s help of course…is our own.

Basically, the book Carla has recommended is wonderful in helping us work through these steps to allowing the Lord to change our attitudes. We, ourselves play a big part in this by our willingness to change, and by co-operating. James gives practical ways to:
‘Replace a complaining attitude…with a thankful attitude.
‘Replace a covetous attitude…with an attitude of contentment’
‘Replace a critical attitude…with an attitude of love’
‘Replace a doubting attitude…with an attitude of faith’
‘Replace a rebellious attitude…with an attitude of submission’

Love and blessings in Christ dear sister!

"Please change my attitude" now! Hi, I have not learned how to deal with a certain kind of person, and what is worse as like an epidemic this kind is growing... My attitude towards them is anger and I need prayers for this, as I need to forgive and somehow understand. Without giving details will say this much: In this world it is not easy and we know we have struggles but we cry out for Peace, (most of us anyway) , probably can be even harder, as people do not seem to totally understand English or it is the comprehension they do not have? That is the kind of people I have problems with who make mountains out of molehills and are ready all the time to think someone said something terrible, when maybe it was not meant that way? Of course there are people who are just mean and will say things cruel and we all know that, and them, but if we know the person is not the kind to try to hurt us purposely how can we just think they have been mean?

So I pray that I can just stop being so talkative and friendly as it seems the more friendly you are the more people find things to hold against you.

We must find the way to "Live IN the world but not be OF this world" Not easy! But we can do it through Jesus Philippians Ch 4:13

So for the New Year I am working on this!

I ask God to " Shut My Mouth" I need to watch ever single word I say in this world so I find. We have such sensitive and some people that like trouble I guess? The ones who take things said and twist them around, slam doors and then will not discuss the problem at hand.

Yes, Lord change my attitude, as I really an getting very tired of this kind of person , I pray that I am always open to t asking about misunderstandings, right away. This is what keeps many family members apart. ( Misunderstandings that never have been discussed and not totally understood) It takes away the peace from all of us. In families it is the worse. The separations can be very long, over some silly thing and maybe the reason is not even remembered they just know they should be angry ( about something)

Thank you for letting me vent..

May my mouth be shut and a smile be on my face.

I ask for you to be blessed this Thanksgiving, and granted great peace, joy and good health! Have a wonderful day and be very thankful for all the love we do have!
