At the risk of re-opening a can of worms....

Do not be quick to discount the implications of these verses and to think they are not applicable for today. It is true that in God's kingdom there are no second class citizens, but it is just too easy to dismiss this by saying, "Well, this is only applicable for the Corinthian church," or "This was just a problem for uneducated women," or "This was only a cultural phenomenon of the time and doesn't apply today."

The previous explanations not withstanding, it is a scary thing to me to dismiss this command as not being applicable for our time when in the very next section the Word of God says, "If you claim to be a prophet or think you are very spiritual, you should recognize that what I am saying is a command from the Lord himself" (I Cor 14:37). The warnings don't get much stronger that that!

Please be very careful. Just because it is not our current cultural practice, shouldn't we conform ourselves to the Word of God instead of the culture? If you start dismissing certain passages of Scripture as not being culturally relevant today, what is to prevent me from saying that prohibitions against gossip or fornication are not culturally relevant? After all, "Everyone is doing it." Let's really think about this.

As for not interpreting this literally, how could it possibly be interpreted except literally? The over-riding principle of biblical interpretation is to take Scripture at its face value and that the plain meaning takes precedence. This is not an unclear passage. We do not need to perform hermenutical gymnastics with the text. What is it about "Women should be silent..." that is too hard to understand?

Just because "There is neither... male nor female..." in terms of our salvation and standing in Christ (as per Galatians 3:21) that does not mean there is not an order, a hierarchy, a division of labor and gender roles in God's household (1 Cor 15:40). Men and women were created differently for different roles. Even though all the members of the Trinity are completely equal and all equally God, there is still a hierarchy, an order, and different roles in the Godhead (1 Cor 15:26-28). If this is true in the Trinity, should we be surprised that God has also mandated this in His church?

Now, a practical problem... When women begin speaking in church, exerting authority, teaching men, or taking leadership over men in the church, what happens? The men leave and the women and children are left to wonder, "What happened to all the men? Why are they spiritually checked out?" We can all say, "It shouldn't be that way!" but that's the way it works: God designed men to lead. So men, step up!

I don't have the easy answers for this. All I'm advocating is that we think and pray about this. Let's not be quick to toss these verses over the side thinking that we somehow know better, are more spiritual, or more enlightened today. That was exactly the arrogance God was warning the Corinthian believers against in 1 Corinthians 14: 36-38.

k ...how .about a witness? ... joyce meyer ...she is well ..known ..and her preaching is awesome!!! ..so i think . " a witness" " there's no better witness to the watching world than believers who stand firm under suffering" have you heard her past ?...she is helping millions.of people to follow christ ..! well ... i can see GOD using her ,..so wonderfully ..to preach to millions ..

"..preach the word! be ready in season and out of season. convince ,rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and teaching .2 timothy 4:2 ....."
note this my breathen ,if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back , let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sin. james 5.19-20
" but in your hearts set apart christ as the lord. always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.but do this with gentleness and respect. 1peter 3 ;15..............
matt 5 14-16 " you are the light of the world .a city on a hill cannot be hidden .neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl . instead they put it on its stand ,and it give light to everyone in the house . in the same way , let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your father in heaven"

including all these vs based on witnessing .....,,also comes in the gifts of the holy spirit !!!!!! in all these places ...its not mensioned ..."only men" ...or "not women" .....or ..if a women ..gets the gift of speaking with wisdom .....what you think she should do ????????.....be silent .. ."i dont think so....

When women begin speaking in church, exerting authority, teaching men, or taking leadership over men in the church, what happens? The men leave and the women and children are left to wonder, "What happened to all the men? Why are they spiritually checked out?"
....................wah ?... i find men ..listening to most of joyce's meeting ...and not getting up and running away ...but ...going out with a better perspective of life? and GOD

GROUP IN CHURCH

"if there is something the women want to know ,they should ask there own husbands at home,it is shameful for a woman to speak at a church meeting"

GOING BACK TO 11CH " SAYS VS 3
BUT I WANT YOU TO UNDERSTAND this, that the head of every man is christ and the head of the women is the man and the head of christ is god "
VS 11 -12
BUT IN THE LORD the women is important to man ..and the man is important to the women
vs 12 this is true because women came from man .,but also man is born from women .REALLY EVERYTHING COMES FROM GOD .... ..." SO WOMEN OF CHRIST PLEASE DO NOT FEEL BAD ...:) CAUSE ...WE CAME FROM THE ..." SAME WONDERFUL CREATOR:) ".... that men came from ...:) we need not fight for are rights ..and make are selves miserable .cause we have are OWN..duties..lol.. so ..da grp in church ..is ..like ...
for eg ..ya playing a game ...and ya div in groups ...in ya group ..there is .."a mother 'a father 2 sons ..etc ..and the man is the head .." k and paul is preaching .. there is some confusion ...with the mother she missed a line ...and also 1 son is confused ..well ..lets not interupt the section ..but later on ask your grp leader ..? ;;; so what am saying is that ...basically its coz of ..intrupting the section ..paul preaches ,or it also could be related to the video what ..jonathan put up ,, and .am pretty sure its not ..that women cant speak at all ..in church!!!!

when in the very next section the Word of God says, "If you claim to be a prophet or think you are very spiritual, you should recognize that what I am saying is a command from the Lord himself" (I Cor 14:37).
..well sir i think you missed a vs ..right after 35 ..,.that is before 37 ...vs 36 "did GODS teaching come from you ? or are you the only one who have received that teaching " so basically most of them received the teaching .. but every one cant teach ....at the same time .. vs 40 .." bt let everything be done in a way that is right and orderly" ...

..lets not be done yet ...we cant just ...look in to the plain meaning .. for eg .."set a watch .oh lord before my mouth : keep the door of my lips . psalm 141:3 ...well the plain meaning ..the real plain meaning a kid would understand it as ...wha is GOD gonna put a watch in my mouth .' ...ha ha ...but the entire vs has a deeper meaning ....and another thing is that ... we cant just read on GODS judgement and morn ...that we have lost the long run ...but also read on ...forgiveness ...and find ..that "you are really not lost " ..........! so each vs .is deep with major back up verses ..but not just the plain meaning ... .
1 corin ch 13 vs 11 ....when i was a child i talked like a child i thought like a child ,i made plans like a child. when i became a man i stopped those childish ways .... .

After all, "Everyone is doing it."
every one ..."joyce meyer ..is a WITNESS,,of GODS ,...PROVERBS 31 ...WOMEN!!!!!!!!!..AMEN

also ..the relationship between man and women ...is truely beautiful.. they help each other to stand firm in the long run of life .why do you think he created 2...lets not ..put in ...the question of whose the greatest? in this beautiful relationship ..bwt man and woman..".cause ...a sin is the same weather it is caused by a man or a woman . and ..GOD LOVES us equally .! .weather man or woman.so let us man and woman ...cherish ..our roles ,,,(cause he knows what we are best at.) let us do them sincerely and humbly .!..! ..in the name of JESUS CHRIST amen

Hi Candy,

Men and Women definately each have our God designated roles!
Joyce Meyer preaches to help many people.....I agree!

I also acknowledge that there is alot I can't explain, and I'm okay with that!----I don't need to have all the answers. I trust God's word.

I prefer listening to male preachers...and even then, I test all things against what scripture actually teaches!

When I answered I was giving you the biblical perspective.

I think it is important that we look to scripture first. The bible does not condemn women teaching or encouraging... The Holy Spirit works in all of us to unite Christ's body! There is alot we need to learn from eachother, just as you said! You are right when you say God loves us equally....and we must (as you said) cherish our roles.

Looking to my own marriage..I can see strengths in my husband..that I do not have. I also know of my own strengths..which he does not have. We must constantly learn and grow from eachother.

Does scripture change because culture changes? If that is true... isn't our culture in favor of homosexuality and abortion? Where do we draw the line?

The one who is preaching is not given Glory! Glory is reserved for God alone! When we are advocating certain things, we must be careful of our motive. Is our motive for Women's Lib?....or is it for God's Glory?

food for thought.. Carla

i agree ...with scripture 1st and also culture ..and scripture ..are different ... well ..lets just ..pray about it :) .....:) and its defenatly ..glory for GOD ...cause alot for women ..still think that there role is ...being inferior ...dats why i said.".so let us man and woman ...cherish ..our roles" ,,,(cause he knows what we are best at.)

Looking to my own marriage..I can see strengths in my husband..that I do not have. I also know of my own strengths..which he does not have. We must constantly learn and grow from each other.

thanks for saying this
...it really explains ..alot! ... ya a witness! cool ..

".lets not ..put in ...the question of whose the greatest? in this beautiful relationship ..bwt man and woman.."" i put this up ...cause as you said ..Glory is reserved for God alone! GOD is the greatest ..therefore removing the conflict of whose the greatest between ..man and women..;0) thanks for checking what i wrote ..:)

"I also acknowledge that there is alot I can't explain, and I'm okay with that!----I don't need to have all the answers. I trust God's word"

a vs to back up what you said:)

1 corin ch 13 vs 11 ....when i was a child i talked like a child i thought like a child ,i made plans like a child. when i became a man i stopped those childish ways .... .12 it is the same with us now we see as if we are looking into a dark mirror.but at that time i will know fully as GOD has know me:)

" trust in the lord with all your heart , and lean not on your own understanding,in all your ways acknowledge him ,and he will direct your parts" GOD BLESS:)

Hi Candy,

Indeed.. Amen and Amen!
God will direct our paths....He does direct our paths!

I think that one reason we study scripture is that we learn of how God uses all people to bring about His plans. God has included men and women powerfully and subtly... What an awesome God we serve! I just Praise God, and I'm thankful that I'm His.. the rest is His story! Amen?
