All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

I am concerned when I get messages like this in my inbox This message below came from a person who is a member of All about God.

No wonder the world is in the mess it is, with so many people starving to death every day. Millions of kids on the streets with no one to love them.

So called Christians turning the Bible around so they can live the way they want and not what God wants
Time and time again they turn the Bible round to suit their way of living.
Now it is tithing and giving.

NO WHERE IN THE BIBLE does it say NOT to tithe or give. For a start there are 209 scriptures in the Bible to help the poor and needy, to give to help God’s little children.

Yes some Churches and ministers abuse tithes and spend it on fancy church buildings etc, but many spend on outreach, a band to worship God, and send some for mission work.

NO TITHES AND NO GIVING IS SPREADING AMONG CHRISTIANS I HAVE SEEN THIS WITHIN MY OWN MINISTRY. IF IT CONTINUES THERE WILL BE ONLY A VERY FEW LEFT.

GOD’S WORDS “ THE ROAD TO HEAVEN IS VERY NARROW. GOD KNEW FROM THE BEGINNING, AND IT SADDENS HIS HEART.

BELOW IS WHAT CAME IN MY IN BOX:-

The new covenant (death of Jesus Christ) has come to cancel the former commandment (commandment of tithe) because of its weakness and unprofitableness (Hebrew 7:18).

Remember when Jesus Christ was alive; the old covenant was not canceled. Mark 1: 41- 45). It was His (Jesus Christ) death stops and cancels the old covenant (Ephesians 2:15) therefore Christians people has Jesus as the Lord and saviour, are not to pay or receive tithe. The Law of tithe was cancelled by the death of our Lord Jesus Christ.
So if you receive or pay tithe you disrespect the death of Jesus Christ and therefore the question is are you a Christian?

It all comes back to what is in our hearts. If we have given our hearts to Jesus we will want to be obedient to his Father.
II Iwas really aching in my heart to tithe, but the curcumstances of my marraige prevent this. I was crying in my heart to the Lord about it. He replied "I don"t need your money I want your obedience." I must say I have been faithfully obedient.
sometimes I would have rather been able to give the money as the Lord has given me some things to do for him that have not been easy. Many times they would have been embarrassing if I hadn't been doing them for Jesus. Some of the things have been so important in a persons life that I never hesitate to do what God shows me. I have walked with the Lord since I gave my heart to him at aged nine. I am 72 now. He has been faithful all those years and patient with my immaturity for many years. When I really started to grow was with baptism in the holy Spirit.

I think the purpose of the tithe I believe should rise above our educated logic.

So what I think the purpose of the tithe is several things.

1) it fosters commitment
2) it fosters obedience
3) it fosters regular attention of a spirit of giving
4) it fosters rememberance that all are not as fortunate, ie compassion.
5) it can be added together for a single purpose to bring people to salvation, and to show our Fathers true giving and loving nature.
6) it shows a common goal, a working togehter, just as a prayer it is said if two or more are gathered, how much more blessed with that request be to our Father in helping others if we are putting the best of what we have into it also???

Knowing all of this, do you really want to quibble over if it is law or if it is outdated law.
We know that the ten commandments and the other many laws are outdated, but are they still not good?
We know that we can only truely fulfil such laws with the love of Christ our Saviour and guidance and obedience to the Holy spirit, but are the laws still not good measuring sticks of our journey towards the nature of Christ.

You can bet your bottom dollar that those who have not come to Christ measure you with such a stick.

And a final note:

Freely you have received, freely give.

The Law came to Who Moses OK...Abraham returning home was returning home after winning a great battle against the king, Melchizedek met him & bleesed him. Then Abraham took a tenth of all he had captured in battle & gave it to Melchizedek....Abraham, the great patriarch of Isreal gave Melchizedek a tenth of what he had taken in battle. hebrews 7:1-4.
My point is simple. This happen before the Law and Paul recogizes this as a tithe as well....Paul never said it passed away anyway This happen before the Law it does not end because the Law was fulfilled....God blesses those who are obedient to the scriptures ....This is just a nut to help.

Old covenant was not Cancelled It was Fulfilled . There is a difference. Jesus fulfilled the Law. Scriptures says He did not do away with the Law. The Law points out sin..Jesus by His sacrifice paid the Price for SIN.Again Old Covenant is not cancelled It was Fullfilled.

yes I undwerstand what some say what I just said. for over 30 years I have been giving Tithes & God has bless every times even if it is just an offerings. One can not give more than God can give. He blesses obedience. It is Him that takes care His children.

2 Timothy 3:16-17, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

Note read Deuteronomy 28 "promised "Blessing for Obedience"( 1 -14)/ promised "Curses for Disobedience"

It is Bible no matter how you fit it. Even though it is in the part of Moses Laws....I like v. 58 so that you may fear this glorious and awsome name, The Lord Your God. next thought Names of God in the Old Testament

Elohim (God)
Jehovah/Yahweh (the self-existent one: I AM)

The discussion on Tithing has been placed on the Anvil many times here on AAG and I guess it will continue for as long as there are people who believe that Tithing is not for today. The excuse they use against the word Tithe is that firstly it is not mentioned in the NT and therefore it is not necessary to Tithe. This argument is as weak as the persons who promote the argument. We should be prepared to give, be it less than a tithe or even more, GIVE! Every labourer, be it a Minister of the gospel or a worker in a factory, is worthy of his hire. Luke 10:7. Stop giving and you may as well close down Christianity.
Of all the replies I have read here, I think Maggie hits the nail right on it's head, when she so clearly states:

"1) it fosters commitment
2) it fosters obedience
3) it fosters regular attention of a spirit of giving
4) it fosters rememberance that all are not as fortunate, ie compassion.
5) it can be added together for a single purpose to bring people to salvation, and to show our Fathers true giving and loving nature.
6) it shows a common goal, a working togehter, just as a prayer it is said if two or more are gathered, how much more blessed with that request be to our Father in helping others if we are putting the best of what we have into it also???"

Well done Maggie.

Thanks for sharing brother. I am really shocked too, I never seen such a misinterpretation of scripture.

I pray that the Lord will lead him/her out of error.

When we were still in the religion we acted as religious people and we believed so much in religion, but the day we discovered true salvation we revived all our thinkings and began thinking like Christ himself. Jesus himself fed the hungry on five loaves of bread and two fish meaning he was compationate enough for the less fortunate in the society, so as christians (his followers) we should be compation to the less fortunate within the community around us and feed them with all their needs if we are in a postion to do so.

On tithing and offering, let me start by asking this? Is it good for a man to rob God? Definately the answer is no, look and the life of Ananais and Safira they died because they tried to rob the Holyspirit in their tithings. God also says that bless me and I will bless you, I will open the gates of heaven and you will recieve all my blessings. so dear brethrens lets not rob our good Lord. But make it an habit just to give him the 10% that belongs to Him, indeed He will bless you and your cup shall florish in Jesus name.

Love,
Irene.

Can't give back to He who has given to us. For me i would not sin gainst Him by robbing His house. I will give to His house that there may be abundance. I pray that the Lord will open their eyes to the principle of tithing
