i have recently started fasting as well. do you hear the voice of THE HOLY SPIRIT? it is very important for you to pray about this, and ask Gods directions and guidance for fasting. wait for His answer. He will tell you how long, and also the TYPE of fast (as there are diff. kinds.) be careful with this. you first have to ask yourself, WHY do you want to fast? are your reasons of the heart? or to GET SOMETHING from the hand of God? the reason for fasting in the bible, is so you may DRAW CLOSER TO GOD. to have a DEEPER relationship with Him. If you are fasting for a specific reason, you must pray and ask God if your reasonings are sound, and if He is ok with the fast. go on the internet and read about different types of fasting; get knowledge about the subject first. read about it in the bible, and then pray for His guidance. you may only want to fast a specific food item (ie; soda, coffee, ect...) you may choose to fast other things, such as t.v. or going out to eat. these are "partial" fasts. ask God HOW LONG you should fast. it may be He just wants you to do 1day a week. for a "full fast", this means a fast for 24hrs, drinking only water. however as w/myself, He allowed two fruits to be eaten during that time. also, He instructed me, to fast 24hrs. its important for your health not to "overfast", to do your body harm. do you feel the Lord is putting it on your heart to fast? or is it coming from YOU? also, during your fast, when you are hungry, you must feed upon the Lords words. you must be in much prayer as well. be careful, and good luck. I will pray for you with this. i hope this was helpful. blessings, nancy

there are different fast mentioned throughout the bible. which way is up to you. Daniel fasted 21 days Daniel 9:3. And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes. Jesus Fasted 40 days Matt. 4:2. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. Cornelius fasted 4 days, Acts 10:30. And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing, all these fasted. God gave us instructions as to what to do when we fast. Matthew 6:16. Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
17. But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
18. That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
Pray and seek God's direction on how to fast and how long. For it is better to not make a vow and then break it. So make sure if you are going to call a fast that you go through with it.
