All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

How Do We Know That We Know That We Know

I saw a three-year-old girl singing, "I have decided to follow Jesus", and she had such a big smile and radiance. It reminded me of a mentally disabled friend who sang, "Jesus loves me this I know." He also showed such confidence and conviction. Why so many people doubted Christianity disturbs me.

A good friend of mine raised this question, "Why do I continue doubting Christianity?" I asked her if she had UN-confessed sin in her life. Was she put down by others. She said no both times. I pondered that question at length by asking friends. Yes, many agreed that doubting took place in their lives. Is this mass coincidence? And yet, it was a three-year-old and a mentally disabled friend who could show such exuberance as to who Jesus was in their life. They certainly did not doubt. But how do we know for sure that Jesus Christ lives within us? Is it the number of Bibles we have in our home or feeling "warm, happy, bubbly, overjoyed, ecstatic, mushy, living on an emotional high?"
I recently read the following: "I think one of the biggest sources of discouragement is thinking that you are totally alone in feeling a certain way and that everyone else has it completely together. There must be something wrong if you don't feel that way--the danger in thinking that we can't serve God until we are perfect and all cleaned up."

How do we know for sure about this Jesus? "God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; those who do not have the Son of God have not the life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may KNOW that you have eternal life" (I John 5:11-13). And we receive Christ into our lives by opening the door to let Him in (Rev 3:20).

Do we still doubt? Yes, there are many times we will. Satan loves to discourage us from realizing the joy of this new journey. Perhaps we wish that we could have some big experience with God as He hits us over the head with His Bible; then we could always acknowledge Him. Yet, God does not operate that way. He allows us to comprehend Him. But the by-product of this new life in Christ is a tell-tale sign of some of the goodness that will start to overflow in our new walk with Him. We will be changed, different, more complete. Others notice we are living a new adventure. Writing down our story of how or why we were changed is beneficial. Like I confessed my sin for hating the lady who works for me who neglected her great great grandchild so badly that the baby died? I tried to be the Judge... I tried to be a referee... Until God touched my heart and softened it and I became free... Free from the bondage of sin (hate and anger)... This all left me and I praise God for this newfound freedom.

How do we know that we know that we know that we know? It is not the number of Bibles we have or how warm and gushy we feel but it is having faith-- simple child-like faith. The song, that can make a theologian cry, answers the question:

"Jesus loves me this I know, For the Bible tells me so....He will wash away my sin, Let His little child come in."

Though I still can doubt, I have decided to follow Jesus. Have you decided to follow Jesus? If you have, welcome to God's family.

MY DEAREST "BACKSLIDER"
I DO NOT EVEN BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE A BACKSLIDER... I THINK THAT YOU ARE PROBABLY CONFUSED AND SATAN LOVES TO GET AT PEOPLE WHEN THEY ARE AT THEIR LOWEST EBB... IF YOU LIKED WHAT I SAY IT GOES TO PROVE THAT YOU ARE NOT A BACKSLIDER... JUST A NORMAL CHILD OF GOD NEEDING HIS RE-ASSURANCE. BUT THIS YOU CAN FIND IN HIS WORD, MY SWEET FRIEND.

SO, DO NOT BE DISMAYED IF YOU CANNOT AS YET BELIEVE AS A LITTLE CHILD... I SOMETIMES CANNOT BELIEVE HOW FORTUNATE I AM THAT JESUS DIED FOR ME (BECAUSE I AM ALSO A SINNER - BUT A SAVED CHILD OF GOD)... FOR IF ANY ONE OF US SAY THAT WE HAVE NO SIN WE ARE LIARS.

BE BLESSED DEAREST FRIEND - I WISH YOU WOULD CHANGE YOUR NAME TO "I'M A BELIEVER"...

HUGS AND LOVE FROM SOUTH AFRICA
