Alex was born again when Tony a friend invited him to go to a men's breakfast one Saturday morning at his church. Adrian a man who had found salvation a few years back shared his testimony at the breakfast. There was a time of ministry after Adrian shared, and during that time of ministry Tony and Adrian approached Alex and ask if he knew the Lord.
Alex knew that he disparately needed the Lord in his life. They prayed together, and Alex was born again. Alex cried out with all his soul for the Lord to forgive him and give him a new life. He confessed Jesus as his savior and Lord, and he felt life come into his spirit.
Alex had grown up in a very dysfunctional family where he went through a lot of turmoil. Alex tried to cope by using drugs, alcohol, he was also hooked on porn, and smoked. He had already been married and divorce, and he was only 25.
Now Alex had an anchor for his soul, but he also needed to find healing for his wounded soul. This is where the body of Christ needs to do their part to help people like Alex experience healing and restoration in his soul.
The soul is the mind, will, emotions, and this is where the working out of the our salvation comes into play. Philippians 2:12 Paul tells the believers at Philipi to work out ( produce, perform ) your salvation with fear and trembling. This salvation needed to begin to be produced in his soul.
A friend of Jesus named Lazarus had died while He was a way. Jesus prayed and called him out of the grave and he came back to life.
The man who had died came forth, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus said to them, "Unbind him, and let him go.”( Free Lazarus, and let him go)
( John 11:14 NAS)
We need to unbind the new believers soul's just like they unwrapped the death cloths from Lazarus. This is what it means to work out your salvation. We are to help those who have been brought out of their spiritual death and have been born again to get rid of the things that conceals the life that is in them. Lazarus looked like a dead man because of the death cloths, but he was alive.
We are to do this first of all with love, and with instruction in the Word of God, with prayer, with fellowship, and with patience.
We need to obey the command of Jesus to unbind them and let them go.
New believers need our love and care if they are ever to get rid of the things that have bound them, those things that have keep them from experiencing the wonderful freedom and joy of the Christian life.
When ever we see some of the binding upon a brother or sister instead of getting judgmental, or critical, why don't we just help them get free. We need to become a people who delight in helping other to find freedom.
We have the same Holy Spirit that is upon us that was upon Jesus in Luke 4:18 when He said,
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon us, because He has anointed us to preach the Gospel to the poor,
He has sent us to proclaim release to the captives, to announce forgiveness to the prisoners of sin , and the recovery of sight to the blind, and to set those free who are oppressed, and who have been shattered by sin."
That was wonderful and so so true, Its as the body of Christ that We show Christ in action or as some would put it God with skin on ..I love thought.
I relate to that tale coming from a dysfunctional family, battered and very much broken Cried out to God fix me or finish me no more I give up.Jesus came into my heart and life and is transforming what was broken into something so much better than it was before .I Praise Him for the work He is doing and for what I am being allowed to do Its awesome.
Come indeed to Christ He wants his children and people healed and restored how else can we show the world if we in the Church havent fully accepted our wonderful saviors gift .
Such a Blessing to read that on today of all day's.
Hi Claire
I am so glad that God spoke to you from this teaching. I believe it more than ever as I minister to those in need every day. Praise God that He is the restorer of the soul.
