I kept my children from participating in Easter egg huntsfor bunny rabbits and candy eggs, was i wrong? Now my children see it the way i taught them and thats about the resurection of Jesus Christ . People would say let your children be children for easter and halloween and i just said NO , because i didn't let them do any easter egg hunting or trick or treating during that day either , so instead my children was taught why they couldn't. They are grown now , but they believe what they believe according to the Bible now.
You are indeed a rare exception and are to be highly commended for your stand. You were absolutely right in doing what you did. Many times the devil's tricks come packaged in seemingly innocent wrappings. All are designed to get our minds off of the true meaning of Easter. As far as halloween goes , that should be a no-brainer for Christians. Although I realize that it isn't.
God bless you for raising your children right in regard to these activities.
We don't celebrate halloween in our country, but easter is a big thing. I have never taught my children about santa or the easter-bunny for the same reasons you never let your kids do the halloween and easter thing! I feel it's un-biblical. As for easter: We do celebrate easter the way it was meant to: starting thursday at sunset with the crusifixion and ending sunday morning with the resurection. It is an absolute heresy as far as I'm concerned, that churches (ALL OF THEM) believe Christ was crucified on the friday and risen on the sunday. How do you fit 3 days and 3 nights in the time between friday and sunday? Jesus Himself said that He will be in hades three days and three nights. As far is Christmas is concerned, apart from exchanging gifts, we do not celebrate Chrismas. Christ was NOT born on December 25! Common sense will tell you that the date-setters were way off base when they desided on this date for our Lord's birthday. December in the northern hemisphere is WINTER-TIME! I very much doubt that there would have been sheppards watching their flocks in the fields in the dead of winter!!! They would have frozen to death. Another thing about Chrismas: this date falls over the winter-solstice: a time that was traditionaly set aside for thanksgiving to idols of pagen countries. In approx AD300, the church of that time, to try and make Christianity acceptable to pagans, mixed Christianity with pagan holidays.
Anyway, more later. If I don't go now, I'm gonna miss my bus!
I have posted this thread a few weeks ago, when a question was raised over the Sabbath. I decided to post it here again, since it has bearing on your question about some holidays. (Actually I copied and pasted the origanal message...Forgive me for being so lazy tonight.)
Did you know that there are in fact 7 Holy days decreed by God in the Old testament that was actually meant to describe to us His master-plan? Did you also know that Jesus Himself honoured each and every one of them? Another interesting fact to note is that the early Church as was formed and founded by Christ and further developed by the Apostles also honoured these Holy days and encouraged their followers to also keep them Holy!
They are as follows:
1) Passover as commanded in Lev 23:5 and observed by Jesus, the Apostles and the church in Matt 26:2 & 17-19; Mark 14:12-16; Luke 2:41-42, 22:1 & 7-20; John 2:13, 23, 6:4 & 13:1-30; 1Cor 11:23-29. This is the best known and obviously points to Christs death for our sins and his ressurection.
2) Feast of Unleavened Bread commanded in Lev 23:6-8 and observed in Matt 26:17; Mark 14:12; Luke 2:41-42 &
22:1 & 7; Acts 20:6; 1Cor 5:6-8. By observing this holy day it helps us realize out need for Christ's help in overcoming our weeknesses.
3)Feast of Pentecost commanded in Lev 23:15-22 observed in Acts 2:1-21 & 20:16; 1Cor 16:8. This holy day serves as an annual reminder that our Creator still works miracles, granting His Spirit to the firstfruits of His spiritual harvest (His followers) empowering them to carry out His work in this world.
4)Feast of Trumpets commanded in Lev 23:23-25 observed in Matt 24:30-31; 1Thes 4:16-17; Rev 11:15 (here I should note that this Holy day was not mentioned by name in the New Testament, but the theme of the day - the sounding of trumpets announcing Jesus's return - is mentioned by several New Testament authors. this holy day symbolises the start of the most wonderfull era in the history of the Earth: the millenial kingdom of Christ.
5)Day of Atonement commanded in Lev 23:26-32 observed in Acts 27:9. gives the picture of the loving reconciliation we have with God, made possible for us by his Son's sacrifice and it that the author of sin, Satan, will eventually be removed so that we can at last recincile with God on a universal basis.
6)Feast of Tabernacles commanded in Lev 23:33-43 observed in John 7:1-2, 8, 10 & 14; Acts 18:21. When the Israelites observed this feast, they left their homes ans errected temporary dwellings to live in while rejoicing before God. these reminded them of their release from slavery and their dwelling in these "booths" or tents, if you will, when God brought them out of Egypt. this feast then, serves as a reminder of our own salvation from the slavery of Satan.
7)Last Great Day or eighth day commande in Lev 23:36 observed in John 7:37-38. points to the final judgement of the Great White Throne and by which time all will finally know and declare that the Lord is exactly who He says He is: Alpha and Omega, Beginning and End the GREAT I AM.
Note the absence of Christmas? That is because we are nowhere in the Bible instructed to keep the day of Christ's birth holy. It is a man made holiday which absurdly enough fall over the same time period as a pagan festival that was in ancient times held over the winter-solstice to commemorate The Day of the Invincable Sun. Through many years and ages different gods or deities were honoured during this time. What is of interest is that all God's Holy Days are arranged around planting and harvesting seasons in tne northern hemisphere (which is where Israel is, of course) and none of them falls in the winter time!
