When the Children of Israel crossed the Jordan, God commanded them to take 12 stones {representing the 12 tribes of Israel} from the river Jordan. They were to keep these stones with them always. These stones were a memorial to God for what He had done for the people on that day. With theses stones they could share with their children and children’s children what God had done for them at the Jordan the day the waters were stopped. {Scripture reference: Joshua 4: 1-(7) key verse}
My question to you is, What memorial have you set up for God to share with others what God has done for you? Isn’t He worthy of it?
Is God Worthy of a memorial?.. my goodness.....He is worthy of far more than that.. We must die to ourselves and live for Him...Entirely!
Ever since I have known the Lord (just 3 years now--I'm a young Christian), I have felt that these following things are the best memorial we can give to God:
The life we live for Him...by Loving others.
Singing Joyful songs of thanks in our hearts.
Making the most of every opportunity to share Jesus in a respectful way with others.
Serve, Share, give things away expecting nothing in return (it all belongs to Jesus)
Bless those who curse us..
Always thinking of others as better than ourselves.
Living simply...giving generously..
We could set up a physical memorial in our lives, but God is Spirit...also, hasn't that been a problem that has led to idolatry in the past? I'm just asking, because I don't know the bible as well as others who have been a Christian longer than me.
Lastly, Our LORD has done so much for me...how many memorials would be enough? That is why I say a life lived for Him is a great memorial.
In addition to that, I journal...I love to go back a read what the LORD has done in my life...especially when I go thru a new rough patch...I am always reminded of His faithfulness.
Dear Carla, I think the choices you said were good ones however I believe God to be far more than just a Spirit for we are made in His image. The memorial I was speaking of was indeed a Spiritual one. Jesus full filled a lot of Old Testament laws, He said I have not came to destroy the Law but to fulfill it. I believe that to set up a memorial for God would be to offer ourselves to Him 100% not just part of us a week. The Bible records that we should give God 10% of all that we have and make. That also includes our time. I believe that so many place God on the back burner and say, God I will take time for you when I am done with this other stuff, (work, play, family etc.) We should give God all the time that He requires. Our life, our service, and all that we own should be a memorial for Him amen. Thank you so much for your response. God bless you always.
That which is spirit is by the spirit, and that which is flesh is by the flesh. The Old Testament reflects a people trying to live by a code that was given to them physically. As we live under a New Covenant we reflect that which is given to us by the Spirit. In other words, we are the Living Testaments of Christ in us the hope of glory! Our God doesn't live in a 4- cornered building, but the Church is those members of His body who are alive and active with the Kingdom of God. We reflect His greatness and the eternal life He has given us. We remember the sacrifice and His wounds, and we always carry around in us, His death and His Resurrection. This is the memorial He wants; that our lives demonstrate Christ in every part of our being.
