All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

A lot of ladies had a discussion about this topic and a lot of differences raised from this issue. And I wondered if I shouldn't make this a topic open for discussion on the Net and hear the opinions of everyone.

I would just like to mention that this is not judgemental towards anyone, but an open discussion especially for those who have been struggling with this question in their hearts.

In my own heart, I feel that it doesn't really matter which day we celebrate the Sabbath as long as you have your day of rest the seventh day of the week as the Bible stipulates. I know some people say it is on Saturday and others on Sunday, but why is this really such a big issue? Isn't it more important if you serve the Lord with your whole heart everyday of your life? Isn't it more important to seek His Kingdom with your whole heart, sit at HIs feet, everyday not only on the Sabbath?
If Jesus went to the fields on the Sabbath when His disciples were hungry (Matt 12) to feed them, would He really thought of this as a problem issue in the lives of His folllowers?
Is it really a breaking of the commandment if you do not, for example, celebrate the Sabbath on Saturday but rather on the Sunday?
And if Jesus died on Friday, how is it that we celebrate Resurrection Sunday on Sunday and not on Saturday?
Are we not having differences over issues that is not that important, for rather worrying when the real Sabbath is, than spending more time in the presence of God?!!
Will we be asked on Judgement day on which day we serve the Lord or rather did you serve ME at all??

Would love to hear the comments of all our brothers and sister on the Net and share in a topic that is of a concern for so many people.

Blessings to all

Colossians 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

I personally believe that we as the saints of God should not neglect gathering together in honor of His Name!
Every day should be a day of worship and serving the Lord.
So much focus is put upon the Sabbath, whether it is Saturday or Sunday, that it has even brought division among God's people! I don't believe that God wants His children divided!
Should we not rather be busy helping and leading the lost to Jesus, our Lord and Savior, and helping the world to focus on and believe in Jesus of Nazareth!
Let us therefore not judge each other in respect of an holy day or of the sabbath days, as written by Paul to the Colossians.
The Lord desires that we love each other from a pure heart fervently..1 Pet 1:22.
Written with love,
God bless you all!

I agree it should not be a dividing issue, sister, and I also agree that Christ alone is for salvation. But there were more Sabbaths in the Mosaic Covenant than the seventh day Sabbath. Read Leviticus 23. The others are "olam" (for a time). The seventh day Sabbath alone is "l'olam" (until the Age, which means the world to come).

I posted a blog entry explaining this. Sabbath is given as a day to rest and reflect on God. It is also part of the Ten Commandments. My belief is that only the ordinances (those things pertaining to the Temple, separation of Jews from Gentiles through laws such as kosher and other "clean"/"unclean" ordinances, special Sabbaths that pointed to His sacrifice) are what is being spoken of in Colossians 2. Likewise, Isaiah 66 says that we will worship Him from one Sabbath to another in the world to come. So I definitely believe it to be eternal on that basis alone.

I thank you all for your contributions in this section. So many people have different views about this topic.
It was so important for God to set up one day to rest that HE made it a law.
He set a day apart to rest and to be spiritual rejuvenated.
The hebrew word for Sabbath - shabbath - means to cease, to pause or take an intermission.
God created the world in six days and onthe seventh He rested, He made it a law for He knew that it is of vital importance for us to take a rest, for body and soul to rest and to set apart a day to worship and honor Him. If you read in Isaiah 58:13-14 we read that we should delight ourselves in the Lord and to cease from work activities and set apart time for the LOrd.It is so important for we have to build a relationship with Him and no relationship is built without time spent with that person. Our Father is a jealous God and He wants us to spent time with Him.
We dont have to restrict that time to only once a week, for relationship is built by spending time together.
Go into the "Sabbath rest" daily with the LOrd, set apart your special time for Him daily in building your relationship, but remember it is vitally important to spent one day a week, where you cease from work and daily activities, and worship the Lord in spirit and in truth

Yes I think you should make this a topic . The Bible says that the 7th day is the Sabbath and no matter what calendar you look at , Saturday is always the Seventh day . There's nothing in the Bible that says the Sabbath was switched from Saturday to Sunday . Yes we are supposed to serve the Lord with our whole hearts ...But we are also command to follow All the Commandments . Here are some good websites to help us understand this topic . www.amazingfacts.org and www.sabbathtruth.com

Back on July 16, 1999, after I read "The Marked Bible" book's tenth chapter and I decided to keep the Sabbath and seek out a church that did, the church I chose just happened to have a discussion about the Sabbath in the Pastor's Class (one of 27 chapters of the SDA doctrines book they were using). I was "told" by the Holy Spirit that I had had my best intercessory prayer times in the past during the Sabbath time and I felt a wonderful peace about that as I remembered when I did most of my unselfish praying. Now I try to begin Friday evening thinking more about and communicating with God more than I usually do. I do not look at the sports scores etc. during the Sabbath time. I sometimes watch a Christian film (either Friday evening or Saturday morning), listen to Rejoice radio, do intercessory prayer, relate to my wife, or/and do ministry as the Holy Spirit urges. I do not shop during that time or do other selfish things. I am against those who are against those who don’t worship on the day they do. I know that I get mostly blessed during "God's cathedral of time" than I do the other 6 nights and days even though I am doing mostly Internet ministry during those times. A lot more about this controversy can be found now at http://www.humyo.com/9538789-696172839 .

It is so easy to fall into the trap of "legalism", on any matter at any time, and this one in particular. I didn't get to read all the replies, as they are now quiet lengthy, however, I liked what Brenda said about not allowing this to be a dividing point, among Gods people.

The word is clear, that we are to work out our own salvation, with fear and trembling. And we each have been given the gift of the Holy Spirit. He is now our guide, should we not allow him to bring his conviction to our hearts, rather than trying to figure out what "others" believe, or would like for us to do?

It is my understanding that Jesus wants us to be free to follow him, that he desires to be the one in control of our lives, and that he has set us free from mans control, if we will only walk in it.

We are clearly told to "not judge another.... pertaining to holy days.... and sabbaths.." Yet... we do. Why?

Could it be that due to pride in our hearts, that we desire to "be right ?" Rather than be willing to follow Jesus example of loving our Savior, with all our hearts, minds, souls and spirits, and our neighbor as ourself?

How, can we love our neighbor, and judge him at the same time?

Is it not more pleasing, to love him, and allow the Holy Spirit to lead him to the place that he desires for him to be, rather than to impose rules upon him, that Jesus delivered him from?

Let every man decide for himself.... between him and his Lord, how he is to live and serve his Master.

I personally like to enjoy two days of rest, if at all possible, Sat. & Sunday. I seek the Lord every day of the week, and try to do so, before beginning my day, because that makes it go better, however, I would not impose my beliefs upon another, I would rather, share what I do and believe, and leave it entirely up to the next person as to how they choose to live and serve the Lord.

It is my belief that the Holy Spirit both can and will lead us into all truth, when and how he desires, and he does not need us dictating to anyone, how to live their life, as he is the author of that life. Let us all walk in the grace that Jesus purchased for us, and allow God to be God to everyone, instead of us trying to do his job for him. And by saying this, I mean no offense toward anyone, no matter what beliefs you hold at the moment, and I sincerely hope that none is taken.

God be with each of us, on the journey that he has called us to.

Just a scripture Matthew 12:11-12 if you had a sheep that fell into a well on the Sabbath, wouldn't you work to pull it out? Of course you would. And how much more valuable is a prson than a sheep!
Yes, the law permits a person to do good on the Sabbath." Under the Law it was a day of rest ahh who does not need rest these days...let me say this to tak a day put it aside & not be so busy & just sit at his feet is a good thing.
