Good Morning Sean,
The title "Lord" is simply another title for God.
If your question is really: Are Jesus and God the same person, then Yes they are one and the same person, as is the Holy Spirit. This is known as the Trinity
Simply said, the Trinity has different purposes or Agenda's
We have God as Creator and Father of us all
Jesus the Son and Saviour of us all.
The Holy Spirit as Comforter and Teacher of us all.
I have always used John Chapter 1 verses 1- 3 with verse 14 to explain that Jesus is God as well as the man Christ Jesus
Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Joh 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
Joh 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us.
We see too that Genesis Chapter 1 corroborates with John 1:3 i.e. "All things were made by Him"
Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:
There is also the answer that Jesus Gave to Philip:
Philip said to him, Lord, let us see the Father, and we have need of nothing more.
Jesus said to him, Philip, have I been with you all this time, and still you have no knowledge of me? He who has seen me has seen the Father. Why do you say, Let us see the Father?
Have you not faith that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words which I say to you, I say not from myself: but the Father who is in me all the time does his works.
Have faith that I am in the Father and that the Father is in me: at least, have faith in me because of what I do. John 14:8-11
Further to the above. The Jews understood what Jesus said when he declared: "I and my Father are one. John 10:30
Then the Jews took up stones again to send at him.
Jesus said to them in answer, I have let you see a number of good works from the Father; for which of those works are you stoning me?
this was their answer: We are not stoning you for a good work but for evil words; because being a man you make yourself God.
There are many many verses that declare that Jesus and God are one. I leave you to find these as you study His word. It would be wrong of me to point them all out, as it would simply rob you of the Joy and the sudden enlightenment you will receive from His Holy Spirit as you discover them for yourself.
May I make a suggestion? Go to www.e-Sword on the web and there you will be able to down load a Bible program and as many Bible versions you want, plus Commentaries and dictionaries etc etc. All for Free. It also has a Search engine that will search for the verses that you are looking for.
God Bless you richly in your search for further truths
Your friend in Christ - Ron.
DEAR SEAN,
I AM NOT AN EXPERT BUT I WOULD SAY GOD AND THE LORD OR TO DIFFERNT NAMES. WHEN I SAY LORD I THINK OF CHRIST. WHEN I SAY GOD I USERALLY THINK OF GOD THE FATHER. U SEE IN OUR LIMITED MIND WE CANNOT UNDERSTAND THE TRINITY BUT WE ACCEPT IT ON FAITH. THE ONLY STUPID QUESTION IS THE ONE U DON'T ASK. L JUST REMEMBER THERE OR PROBABLE OTHERS THINKING ABOUT THE SAME QUESTION. KEEP ON ASKING. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY WE GROW AND LEARN ABOUT HIM.
Sean, do you want the short answer? Or, do you want the entire historical detail?
Short: Yes, .... and not necessarily.
Usually, we use the term Lord to refer to God the Father, and Jesus. (Jesus said "I and my father are one." and "I am one with my father.") Mostly the Bible uses the term Lord to mean Jesus. However, when you are looking at the old Testament, English Bibles translate the Holy Name of YHVH (Jehovah/Yahweh) as LORD. (note: all capitals).
The long answer involves background in 3 languages: Hebrew, Greek and English - to define the concepts of Lord, LORD and God.
It's not a stupid question, both are used to describe all three persons of the Trinity if that's what you're asking. The Father is Lord and God, The Son is Lord and God, the Spirit is Lord and God.
They are used together as in "The Lord God" Genesis 2:4
This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made earth and heaven.
or "The Lord your God"
Exodus 20:2
" I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery."
or Exodus 6: "2 God also said to Moses, "I am the LORD. 3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the LORD I did not make myself known to them."
Like Donna says generally when we use Lord we think of Christ, and the NT usually refers to Christ as Lord as in phil 1: 2 Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
But all three Persons of the Holy Trinity are Lord and God
Spirit:
2cor 2:17Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
Acts 5: 3-4 But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land? .... You have not lied to men but to God."
Son:
Thomas to Christ: John 20:28 "Thomas answered and said to Him, 'My Lord and my God!'"
Father:
Phil 1:2 Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father.....
and
Acts 2:34 "For it was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himself says:' THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD,"SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND
First Lord being the Father, second being the Son who sits at the right hand of the Father.
