All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

What exactly is a "generational blessing"? It was prophesied over my children the other night. I get the gist of it, but the things I'm reading aren't being blunt enough for me....<-----natual blond..hehe

I'm been looking everywhere on the web, but I'm finding more about "generational curses" than blessings....Any help?

Hi Steph,
I have to agree, I have not heard of this "generational blessing". Are you in the Christian faith? I have been a Christian since 2002, and never heard of that. Not to say it doesnt exsist, but I havent heard of it and I have done alot of studies. Bible studies, book groups, classes, etc. and it has never been brought up. I will have to ask some of my friends here to see if they know what exactly it is.

Im just "Guessing", that it just might be just a normal prayer to pray over a child to protect her from generational curses, but they called it a generational blessing? I have known alot about "generational curses", because I have PLENTY of them, so I always get prayer to "break them off me" that "I will move forward and dont look back. That I am a new creation in Christ."

My son and my daughter had a "dedication". Its just a dedication to the Lord is what it is. Its like a baptism, but not, does that make sense? A baptism is when one chooses to be reborn, to be born again, the old is gone, the new has come. You were dead in your sins, but now you have "chosen" life. I hope Im explaining myself. ( Im dumb, but IM not naturally blond, so whats my excuse! Ha Ha)

Anyway, I will ask around, but a good person to talk to would be "Julia" she heads the Womens Group. I encourage you to join us there and you can get all kinds of encouragement and answers to your questions.

God Bless sister!!

Hi there Steph, I became a Christian late in life, so missed many opportunities to bless my children and others. I now have an excellent book, 'The Blessing Handbook' ¨(How to Give a Blessing to Anyone Who Needs One), by Terry R Bone. Terry and his wife Melissa led their church (Lakemount Worship Centre in Grimsby, Ontario) on a remarkable journey toward spiritual and emotional health based upon the Biblical principle of Family Blessing. and in 2003 founded Identity and Destiny Ministries. They have developed media resources to assist families, individuals and churches to apply the Biblical principles of giving and receiving blessing.

The contents include:

I believe that God has a plan that takes into account every facet of our current circumstances. I believe that God is Sovereign. He is in charge. His purpose is to offer salvation to the world, just as HE planned to do long ago. When my life seems chaotic, I rest in this truth: Jesus is Lord, and God is in control. God's purpose to save us cannot be thwarted, no matter what evil Satan may bring. Praising & worshipping God is an awesome weapon…one of my most used, and absolute favourite. May His praise be always on my lips. Jesus is the Author and Finisher of our faith.

I believe that we are to bless God and bless others. Words say it! Deeds show it! Ceremonies seal it! I believe God uses people and their words and deeds to bless others. This is why I believe it is important to speak blessings into a person’s life. We bless the Lord. We bless each other. What better way than to do this than with words and deeds. All of us need and crave blessing from pre-birth and throughout all stages of life.

Eph 1:3-11 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding. God has now revealed to us His mysterious plan regarding Christ, a plan to fulfill his own good pleasure. And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ – everything in heaven and on earth. Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.

Ecclesiastes 4:12 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

God instructed Aaron to bless the people of Israel by speaking to them: Numbers 6:22-27. ‘Tell Aaron and his sons, This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them…(the Priestly Blessing). Are we not all priests? Are we not to bless each other? Are we not all called to be priests and to receive the priestly blessing talked about in Numbers 6:24-26? ‘May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you His favour and give you His peace.’

From Deuteronomy 21:5 we see that to pronounce blessings is one of the three main purposes of the Aaronic priesthood…for the Lord your God has chosen them to minister and to pronounce blessings in the Name of the Lord and to decide all cases of dispute. The word ‘pronounce’ carries the connotation of authority. When a judge pronounces a sentence upon a prisoner, his words establish a new reality for that person’s life. His words can also release a prisoner to freedom. In the same way, words of blessing carry authority in the spiritual realm. When a blessing is pronounced it establishes new liberty in a person’s life.

Do these verses not convey hope that God would bless and protect, smile on, be gracious to, show His favour toward us and give us His peace. I do not believe there is anything wrong with giving a blessing like this…rather I believe it is good and right to do. I hope we have not become so paranoid that we hold back, or block the blessings that God would want us to have as He came so that we would have life to the full. (abundant life).

Romans 5:20 ‘where sin increased, grace increased all the more’. I believe that when we speak the truth in love, blessings are given…something I may not be very good at yet, but the Holy Spirit is my Teacher. Blessings can encourage, increase self-confidence where needed, improve relationships, and often cause people to step up to leadership roles. Of course there may be issues & unforgiveness may need to be worked through in a person’s life, but we should not withhold blessings.

Luke 6:28a ‘Bless those who curse you.’ I LOVE THIS!!!
Luke 6:31 Do to others as you would like them to do to you. (Do you not love it when people bless you?...(I do!) Right after I finish typing this message I am going to bless my husband, as today is our 19th wedding anniversary.

From Genesis 12:1-3 we see that when God called Abram (Abraham), he moved out in faith, and God established a covenant with him, telling him that He would found a great nation. Not only would this nation be blessed, God said, but the other nations of the earth would be blessed through Abram’s descendants. We are blessed beyond measure by a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, through Abram’s family tree.

Another example of giving a blessing is when Jesus took the children in His arms and placed His hands on their heads and blessed them.

I do live each day in faith, knowing and trusting that God is in charge. I try not to limit God by my expectations. I know He is at work wherever He is needed in our sin-darkened and dirty world. Christ offers us new hearts that will last for eternity. I will not be paranoid about blessing God or my neighbour. I delight in this.

Dear Heavenly Father: I pray that Jesus would be glorified in my life. I ask that You give me Your strength to walk through all the circumstances in my life, and that You grant me understanding how to receive and give blessing to anyone in need of a blessing. I ask these things in faith, believing that you want to answer each request made. In Jesus Name, Amen.
