I had such a huge responce when I sent this message to my friends that I felt that it might be a good topic of discussion.
Bitter or Better
Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy;
Without holiness no one will see the Lord.
See to it that no one misses the grace of God and
That no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.
Hebrews 12:14-15
• BITTERNESS HAS A DANGEROUS ROOT.
See to it that…no bitter root grows up… Hebrews 12:15
o Roots absorb and store and grow.
• BITTERNESS HAS A POISONOUS FRUIT.
See to it that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.
Hebrews 12:15
Defile: miaino (me-ah'-ee-no); stain, pollute or contaminate.
…whenever (the bitter root) springs up, many are corrupted by its poison.
Hebrews 12:15 NLT
THE FRUIT OF BITTERNESS:
1)We easily see the bad in others.
We disregard our own short comings and magnify the short comings of others
2) We feel justified in criticizing and gossiping.
We feel this special entitlement to criticize others like some special privilege because we were so hurt.
Self pity is satanic and is one of our greatest enemies that we must overcome in our lives.
3) We secretly celebrate their misfortunes.
When you hear things are happening to the other person in the negative, it gives you a strange since of validation and satisfaction.
4) We bring many people down.
WITH WHOM OR AT WHAT ARE YOU BITTER?
CLEAN AND CLEAR THE BITTERNESS
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving
Each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Ephesians 4:31-32
KILL THE ROOT OF BITTERNESS
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Ephesians 4:32
KILL BITTERNESS WITH COMPASSION.
Be kind and compassionate to one another…
Ephesians 4:32
KILL BITTERNESS WITH FORGIVENESS.
forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Ephesians 4:32
Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.
Hebrews 12:14-15
PERSONAL PRAYER
God, I pray that you would forgive me for allowing bitterness to grow.
By the power of your Holy Spirit, would you clean and clear the bitterness from my heart.
Replace the root of bitterness with a heart full of compassion and forgiveness.
I pray you would restore my wounded relationship(s).
In Jesus name, Amen.
