Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your mind and with all your strength. (this is only possible by being filled with the Holy Spirit).
When you in Love with Jesus like that, You SHALL not have any other Gods. (Because you won't want to). When you are in love with Jesus like that, You SHALL not covet your neighbors wife, or his donkey, or his household. (because you will be too busy thanking Jesus for what he has given you).
You can see the "shall not" as a restriction, or you can see it as a promise. I have been looking at it as a promise in recent times. When I'm focused on my love for Jesus and serving him, I'm not to tempted to commit adultery, or theft or murder. I'm too busy seeking Jesus and his will, to be chasing the will of my flesh.
Do I get tempted? Yes. Every day. But those temptations are like little children begging me to play with child's toys. I'm too busy doing adult things to be worried about it. I have bigger and better things occupying my interests. My goals are like flying real planes vs. playing with model planes.
So, his promise is fulfilled in my life because I definitely "shall not" be interested in doing things that keep me from experiencing the dynamic presence and guidance of Christ in my life each day. If I let any temporary things of this world capture my attention, I'd miss what Jesus wants to do in my life! Who knows how many phenomenal things I would miss? For what? A temporary pleasure???
Like Moses, I am daily reminded that the pleasure of sin is temporary. But, the surpassing glory of God is eternal. I don't want to miss that. So, maybe I'm not going to be another Moses. But, maybe God has something planned that is just as awesome. Why would I want to be unfaithful?? No, I want to be prepared!!
I believe you will have less temptation, when you see yourself as a person pursuing your calling. Stop seeking temporary things, and and start preparing yourself to fulfill the destiny God has for you in Christ. When you "fix your eyes" on the things he has prepared for you, you will be less distracted by these little things, these child's toys of carnal behavior.
What is God calling you to live out? Don't think of yourself as small, but think of God as great. What would a great God do, if he had your full attention to be fully prepared for his work?
By renewing your mind and thoughts, you will be able to overcome lust. Stop thinking about the past love life you had. Renew it by thinking about the future, and how Gods love is sorrounded you. Say NO to the devil and stop blaming your self. Read the Bible alot and remind yourself what God doesnt like and start eliminating them in your life deliberately.
You have spoken with such wonderful wisdom. The last line especially. ' Read the bible a lot and remind yourself what God doesn't like and START ELIMINATING THEM IN YOUR LIFE DELIBERATELY.'
In my battle in this area, and many other areas, it is so important for me to deliberately take action against the things that lead my thoughts in the wrong direction. We cannot 'passively' resist the devil because he will always win. We must submit to God , resist the devil(with direct action, as you have stated) and THEN he will flee from us.
In Ephesians 4: 28 "Let him that stole steal no more, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have to give him who has need.
I nthis example Paul gives steps to overcoming the temptations to steal but the principles are the same. Paul says first , to stop doing it ( obviously) .then to work with his hands ( giving himself something constructive to do
to battle the temptation). Then , 'that he may have to give to him that is in need' ( that he may effectively help others avoid the same situation.
Although he speaks specifically of stealing the principle is there. The best way to overcome sin and temptation is to , as you simply stated, deliberately remove obstacles ( things that lead us into the temptation). read the word and meditate on it ro get our thoughts where they are supposed to be and then when God leads us through to help others with the lessons we have learned and the new found compassion HE gives us for those who are in similar predicaments. Like Jesus said to Peter ' And when you are converted , strengthen your brethren. God does not deliver us from temptation for our benefit only ; but to ' help strengthen our brothers and sisters.
God bless you all as you seek God's guidance and help in all things.
You need to be delivered from the spirit of lust. All things that manifest in the natural have roots in the spiritual realm. Just as we have ministering holy angels from God, there are tormenting demons from hell. It starts in the mind. Thoughts that come into your mind that are not pure are straight from the demons of hell. You are being tormented by a demon of lust and you need deliverance from it. An excellent ministry on deliverance is in Hot Springs, AR called Lake Hamilton Bible Camp. Google it online and go to the website. You will find information on how to deal with this issue and be free from it.
