This has been a topic for some time in my study.. Should 10 Commandments be taught in the Churches? What do you think of the "law and "grace". 2 Corinthians says tht "Now if the ministry of death that was inscribed in letters of stone came with such glory that the people of Israel could not gaze on Moses' face (because the glory was fading away from it)"

Should any part of the Bible not be taught in light of the whole of Scripture? It must be taught, not apart from grace, but rather in the light of grace. Man needs to know that he is a sinner and that he needs a Savior. Too many today assume that heaven is a right, when all the while they are separted from God because of the guilt of sin. The law reveals that guilt and brings awareness to our need.
There is a second part that often goes unnoticed. The 10 Commandments have a flip side to them. Most often people look at the "do not" and miss the positive aspect when you turn it over. Here are three examples:
1. Thou shall not commit adultery: The positive side of this commands me to love and cherrish my wife. If I am in love with her and focused on her as my spouse I will not have to worry about the "do not" part of the command. I do not wake up each day wondering if this is the day I mess up, but rather wake up in love with my wife again and again.
2. Thou shall not commit murder: The positive side is for us to respect life.
3. No other god before me: Similar to the adultery note above. If I am in love with God and focused on Him, I do not have to fear putting something before Him. Therefore, the positive side is to draw near to Him, grow deeper in love with Him daily.
This logic applies to all 10 and I teach the postive points of the 10 Commandments as much as the "do not" aspects that reveal sin. For in our life we need to know what we are being saved from and to Whom we are being saved unto. It is not just about heaven and hell, but a true relationship with the living God.
How right you are LT.
I have never given your suggestion any thought before. One seldom thinks of applying positives to negatives. - Thank you!
An excellent post.
Thanks for adding me as friend... I do agree with Pastor LT's comment that the whole Bible must be taught in the church in the light of Grace. 2Tim. 2:15 command us to "Study to shew thyself approved unto God a workman that needeth not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth".
The Apostle Paul made it clear that we are not under the law but under grace:
Romans 6:14 ... for ye are not under law but under grace.
Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, "Cursed is everyone that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them."
Galatians 3:24-25 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
James concurred with Paul when he said:
James 2:10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
Though the Christian is not under the law, does that mean he can do as he pleases? Paul addressed that issue when he said:
Romans 6:15 What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under law, but under grace? God forbid.
Wonderfull.. Praise God for the reply's beloveds.. Lets go a bit deeper now.. Have a read on the paragraph below (in bold italics) and Give your opinions in the light of scripture and personal experiences.. (I love to hear Testimonies :) ) God bless!
"When a top executive is charged for corruption or a church minister is caught in the very act of adultery, you will probably hear the phrase “fallen from grace” being used of them. We have come to believe that when someone falls into sin, he falls from grace.
But God wants us to know that when someone falls into sin, he does not fall from grace — he actually falls into grace! Thank God His grace is there to put the person back on his feet.
Sin does not and cannot stop God’s grace. If His grace can be cut off by sin, Jesus would never have come to save us because we were all terrible sinners. But praise God, “where sin abounded, grace abounded much more”!
This passage is taken from a daily devotional by my previous pastor in Singapore. I am Doing a study on the above said subject.. Your thoughts and advises will be a valuable Inspoiration for me.. Lets walk in the fullness of His grace.. in the light of His love.. God bless you all..
